Yeah, the robo minis are pretty amazing. And I'd love to see GID robo-guts for that clear micro Maxx! No tanks in the Lucky Bags, huh? Bummer...

I grabbed one of the tanks and am loving it, I am a big Metal Slug fan, never played Warhammer, but I see a Metal Slug influence. I will be hoping for some camo paints and will try to grab one when they come.

Re: New Dream Rocket & Max Toy discussion
My favorite part is actually the turret attached to the negora legs Since the tanks fall into the "monster boogie" line (per header) i tried to replace the smaller turrents with the new nekron and micro cats but its not a great fit. The joints on the monster boogie minis arent circular but u can put them on, they just sit there loosely.

Re: New Dream Rocket & Max Toy discussion
oh my god, I love that green king negora so very very much. Was that a one-up or an actual colorway? I am dying for it. If I find out it is standard colorway and not a custom, I think I shall go mad looking for it.

Re: New Dream Rocket & Max Toy discussion
Forgive me. I am fairly new to the designer vinyl and larger figures in general. Up until now it has been all gashapon, mostly capsule toys that are long out of print but still fairly easy to find. I am guessing lucky bag means something like blind box and that anything in it would NOT be a custom?
Besides yahoo japan, ebay, and mandrake, are there any great places for finding older figures like this that are not being sold by stores anymore? Or never were. I must admit that I am really loving these toys, but I do find it frustrating how limited they are and how difficult to find. At least with gashapon, there were so many out there that I always felt confident they would turn up eventually and they mostly always did. With these I am not so sure. I feel quite desperate for that green negora and also for the translucent blue one (love deep colors and love translucence), but I am wondering if finding them is out of the question or not. Is it a reasonable search or am I trying to chase the end of the rainbow here?

Re: New Dream Rocket & Max Toy discussion
Yup..."lucky bags" are kinda like blind boxes...er...bags! I don't know a ton about the history of blind bags, but they seem to go back to toy shows/events of the 70's, where attendees could buy these exclusive bags filled with a variety of toys. Nowadays, they're often filled with some minis, some midsized figures, and maybe one or two standard-sized ones. And there's usually a chance one or more of the figures will be one-offs (or at least low-run special releases).
You already mentioned the main avenues for getting these toys, but arguably the most important one would be to establish yourself with a community like this one. When you get to "know" folks and they get to know you, private trades from collector to collector can be an invaluable resource for finding specific things. Good hunting!

Re: New Dream Rocket & Max Toy discussion
Lucky bags in this case probably spun off from the custom in Japan of stores blind-bagging unsold merchandise at New Year's and selling them at a discount as fukubukuro (literally, lucky bags). Granted the lucky bags that we know serve a different function since their contents are usually new, exclusive figures, not overstock. This Balbagon is one of those curiosities that probably only a few people will remember. It was from the custom painted Kaiju Battle Sets released by Max Toy, Dream Rocket and Target Earth at 2008 summer Wonderfestival (you could get either a Capt. Maxx and Dream Rocket Gumoz or a Capt. Maxx and Target Earth Gameldon). What makes this odd is that the Dream Rocket Battle Sets were only supposed to contain the Gumoz sculpt. I saw a partial photo of what appeared to be a Balbagon in one of the Battle Sets, but I was never able to confirm the figure until now. Unfortunately, this one had been separated from the custom Capt. Maxx in the set. Surprisingly, it is on a GID vinyl base. At the time, the Balbagon had been recently run on GID as a Max Toy exclusive, so this was probably painted on a leftover from that run.

Re: New Dream Rocket & Max Toy discussion
Gorgeous Balbagon and a great informative post. Still love that sculpt. I remember finding it hard to keep track of all the small-run varieties including several with glittery paints but don't remember this GID version at all. Thanks Daniel.

Re: New Dream Rocket & Max Toy discussion
Not sure if these were posted elsewhere, but Lulubell has pre-orders for Dream Rocket's GID Gappo and Zabami, limit 1 per person. ZABAMI: GAPPO: I don't know about you guys, but that Gappo looks incredible. Almost a skull-like face when glowing.

WOW, I thought for sure that Gappo had been abandoned. So far as I'm aware this is only the third general release. That wonderful sculpt never got enough love.
