That book is great! It can be had pretty cheaply at amazon.com. That and the rack toys book are some of my favorite American junk toy books.

Such a great book Lixx! I adore these mail-order ads, have always been addicted to the comic ones, and especially the old Johnson Smith catalogs they used to have. I spent hours of my youth dreaming of all the stuff I wanted to order. This is particularly nice though for having images of the actual products (which were typically huge letdowns ). The ones shown though are amazing. I am going to have to add this to the wishlist.

I use to save my allowance as a kid and began my life long obsession with "getting stuff in the mail" via these ads. I know I had lots of the Adams Smoking Dog/ Mule etc featured in it, and a complete Navy I got somewhere along the way. Invariably most of this stuff ended up burnt to a crisp in the backyard as part of my pyro obsession

^ Ah burning toys. That was part of my childhood fun. The toxic black smoke that Star Wars toys gave off was mind blowing. I should be dead by now

Love the illustrations vs the real product. It used to be acceptable to decieve kids for their cash. Maybe it was a meant prepare us for future pitches (college diploma, job, etc)

I don't know if you remember Ben / Prometheum5 who used to hang here a few years ago. He does 3d printed mecha toys nowadays and they're really cool ! Sorry for my stupid processed pic, this is the GID one.

Had to share this. I was totally surprised to find this mega-awesome invitation from Kohn Gallery for Mark Ryden's next show in the mail today ! Cardstock, about the size of a dinner plate - thought I had somehow gotten a 12' record at first : )

Yeah, I remember Ben, I follow him on tumblr. He has some interesting figures. This one is very nice, I've always wondered about their size. nefasth wrote: I don't know if you remember Ben / Prometheum5 who used to hang here a few years ago. The Ryden invite is lovely, thanks for sharing.

SO COOL I was just looking at some of these EXACT mask ads in some old Cracked and Gorezone magazines with my buddy last weekend. Honestly, these are way above our expectations for what you'd probably receive for the $1.49 price tag. I need this book!!

Re: The "What You Got In The Mail That Isn't A Vinyl Toy" Th
... some recent mail drops... * damn cool tote bag by Johnny Over Load Dance outta Hong Kong (we got chatting over email, i wanted to buy some art, he said he had none, but i gave him my address, and a week or so later an unexpected package turned up - damn cool! Who doesn't love surprise gifts?) : * ... the 'Bagman' resin by DLL Customs. From a series of works based on characters from the Jungol film clip for their song 'Go Softly' I have known Derrick aka DLL for a few years now. Met him at the Sucklord forum, 'Galactic Jerkbags'. He recently began making resin and i must say the man makes good stuff! Great texture on all his works.

^^^^ MAN, Derrick is a damn great guy. Damn great. And he is really moving fast with his resin work! All of it is damn well made and sculpted. PLUS he does stuff - like the Go Softly set - that really go outside normal resin art. ...can't wait to see what you guys have a cooking!
