I always thought Vice Magazine were cool as f__k . . . . now they've proved it, without a doubt.
Thanks for the link

This was fun to watch. I can't get enough "behind the scenes" looks at toys being painted or worked in the factories, set up at cons, etc. I've also never heard Mori talk that much, so that was cool, too.

Re: Vice Japan - A Day With RxH Video
If only somebody out there would make a feature length documentary in the style of Beautiful Losers about the history of sofubi and the modern scene... Somebody with lots of industry contacts.. Somebody with a little clout.. Somebody who has knowledge of both vintage and current eras.. Somebody with the initials B.F. perhaps??
^ and kickstart it. I'm sure the funds would be raised. In a growing sea of clueless designer-toy-dom where everything is new, new, new this would be a welcome change.
It still really grinds me to think that there is a sofubi designer toy awards category that never mentions the likes of Mori, Gargamel or Goto-san.

It made me chuckle . . . demonstrated just how naive, insular, self absorbed and incestuous the American toy community really is!

For what it's worth, Clutter wanted to give Goto-san a lifetime achievement award last year, but it didn't pan out. If you care about those guys, just nominate them. The Americans just end up nominated because they nominate themselves or have a friend nominate them. Yes the whole show and voting system is a joke and a lot of people just try to take advantage of it to promote themselves. But these guys could be there.
I just wonder how the Japanese artists view the omission? Do they just shrug it off as clueless americans or do they actually feel offended?
I guess i'm mainly curious because, with the awards in New York during comic con, and RXH being at the con, it's a pretty awkward set-up.
I'm pretty sure in it's first year i tried nominating some Japanese makers and it didn't pan out. Only reason i didn't nominate in the second go around is because I just had enough of the whole thing, and i don't want to spend as much as a brain fart on such a meaningless event.

that was very satisfying, although another hour of it would've been even better!
thanks for finding and sharing this video, btc.
also, thanks to datadub for helping to make this happen. any chance this is the first in a series to cover other toy makers?

Great production as well as great subject matter. Very cool how much credit was given to Goto. 60 years of painting! Kills me to see that & know how many people on this board have shit on RxH.

I think this actually made my day! I love hearing people talk passionately and at length about the toys we all love, just seeing these guys work and discuss their relationship and what they do is inspiring.

Love Mori's Ghostbusters jumpsuit. It seems like a dream to see RxH holding exhibitions at Yamashiroya, an institution in the toy world of Tokyo- hopefully I'll be able to attend one of them some day.
Great production quality on the video. I think it perfectly captures the essence of modern day RxH.

Great on every level; made my day, as well. So well done... the execution befits the subjects, for sure. I'll echo the rest of the Peanut Gallery: "MORE, please!!!"
