Re: Godzilla (2014)
In an interview about the making of "Pacific Rim" Guilllermo del Toro said that one of the considerations he had to contend with was whether or not that film's world was one in which kaiju movies already existed. As it turned out the movie itself didn't appear to address that question (other than its use of the word "kaiju") although there was a wink-nod reference to Star Wars ("don't get cocky") so at least we know that movie existed in PR's world.
Not having seen Edwards' Godzilla yet, I don't know if the question of whether or not Godzilla movies exist in the milieu of the film is addressed, but according to this entertaining New York Times article about Goji's morphology, that contingency was at least proposed in pre-production.

Re: Godzilla (2014)
I just saw the original Godzilla (1954) last night. My god what an amazing film. I've always been meaning to see it, but having it presented by Arclight on the big screen here in LA was the perfect opportunity. It will forever change how I view the big guy. I now feel I was somewhat ignorant being a fan of the toys, but not really knowing the source material. Definitely more than just a dude in a rubber suit b-movie my young mind always thought it was. It wasn't even about the monster per se. The situation and actions of humans in the face of armageddon. Yet it's eerie how the same overtones and sentiments are still relevant to this day. Very dark and bleak.
Anyway, got my tix for Imax 3D for Godzilla tonight. Super excited. Here's the poster I helped create as matte painter for the agency I work for. Glad I could be part of this movie in some way...
SB'ers who follow Brian Flynn on Twitter probably already saw this, but as another point of local interest, he was interviewed for the Edwards' Godzilla DVD/BD.

Re: Godzilla (2014)
Saw it last night and it was awesome! Can't wait to see it again.. What's super cool is that all of the trailers use alternate shots that don't actually happen in the film to give a different tone to some scenes. Won't say any more in case it falls into spoiler territory

Re: Godzilla (2014)
Wow, just got home after seeing it with a fantastic audience. Lots of cheering and laughter, big applause at the end. I loved it. I won't venture into spoiler talk until more folks have had a chance to see it, but by all means, tune into your inner kid and have a blast.
