I must admit, I have a weakness for windup toys....

Image
Bullmark metal windup King Ghidorah, ended at 18000
I wonder if the wings are plastic or if the entire toy is metal? This must be a really fun toy to see in action! :P Not only do the wings flap, but it looks like the chompers on all three heads move too! Those mouth parts look very delicate.

That's not a windup - its the Bullmark Bullpet Ghidorah. The body is diecast, the necks and tail are rubber, and the wings are plastic. No, they don't flap. They just fold up. I will post pics later when I get home tonight.

EDIT: Just found this pic on my phone. Here's most of the Bullpet gang:

BTW, I believe that both of those KR hand puppet villains were up for auction at the same time.

Awesome score, Grace!

Yeah, that Bullpet King Ghidorah is a favorite of mine, too. Like a fine metal sculpture...that happens to shoot missiles! :P

Thank you for the photo and clarification Choon! :P Those Bullpets are very nice! After seeing Pickleloaf's missile-firing Goji in action, I'll have to see if I can adopt some now!

Sanjeev, I was watching the auction, and really wanted to adopt him, but I'm on a buying moratorium for now  Trying to recover from my latest JYA box, and it's a doozy!

Just watched this auction end. Went for an absolute steal at 7150 JPY!

He's pretty ancient looking, and has quite an appealing face. Look at those monstrously long arms! :D
The auction describes the toy as an "unknown gorilla". Please share any info you might have on this toy, he's a mystery to me.

I really wanted this Norakuro vinyl trio, but the price got up there (at least over what I was willing to spend - I have no clue what others might have sold for in the past). About 6 inches tall too. Guns made of wood and metal. Great coloring, especially on the feet.

I always think Norakuro is a cat! but he's really a dog soldier. Are they suppose to come in a trio, or did the seller just have three figures? Nice to see the rifles intact for each doggie. These toys seem to be very expensive on JYA, is it because they are popular and hard to find, or because of some other significance?

Found a cute clip

^^^ Looks like someone literally just let the cat out the bag! I covet one of these so badly.

^^^Chris you are hilarious! What I find mind boggling, is that after +40 years, it looks like the Tiger just came out of the factory yesterday. Wonder where he's been hibernating all of these years

I saw this Tiger 7 in YJP too but unfortunately ended too high, I never seen before the gloves. I think it was new in bag but with the bag in really bad shape and they chose to open.

A Toy Angel told me that, because the bag was tossed, that's probably why the Tiger is in such good shape (allows the vinyl to degas over time-avoid staining and becoming sticky). The price was high, but not as high as the auction that Chris posted

viewtopic.php?f=30&t=13925&p=790372&hilit=tiger+7+gloves#p790372
*see Lixx's entry, 1/3-way down the page. That tiger was much higher! And that auction was less than a year ago!
Both are beauties, and it's wonderful to see them with their gloves when they do come up for auction!

You are right, compared with the Lixx have posted before this was a bargain. The other pay like ¥60,000 extra just for the bag.

No doubt that is a beautiful piece and I hope we have the chance to score one soon! (for a good price ofcourse jajaja)

Best regards!

Yes, that's a LOT of money for an old plastic bag! I agree, these Tigers with (or even without!) gloves, are pretty special toys! Good luck to you Alebrije and Chris, with your Tiger hunts!

short version...

It's the dark brown bootleg version of the Bullmark cartoon King Kong.

I never saw a brown vintage Marusan Kanegon before, and I could not find anything about it on the web (and not listed in the Club Tokyo database). I tried for it, but it went above what I wanted to spend (oops - this was the photo I saved before the auction ended - it actually ended at 33,150 yen):

I was watching that one. So amazing. So unattainable.
Last one I saw without a box went for 500,000 yen or so. A bargain in hindsight!
Hung around at 401,000 and then exploded.

Google says:
1,841,000 Japanese Yen equals 18,148.5780 US Dollar

That auction blew my mind. I could never fathom one of those going for over 10 grand, much less 18! I think this might be the highest price I have heard of for a vinyl (non-ultraQ) selling for. The last highest was the boxed giant size Red Baron missile fire for 1,000,000yen, and that is much harder to find than this figure. It is getting crazy out there.

I have a box for this figure (but no toy) that I bought on yahoo japan around 2002 for 2,000yen ($20). How the times have changed!

That's amazing Brian! Hell of a bargain of course, but I am also imagining that the box art alone is pretty fantastic. Heck, even a repro I could see costing nigh a hundred these days.

It is getting crazy out there. The trend seems to be getting worse. I am not sure if it is a self-feeding situation where high prices lead to more bumped prices (and on and on....), a rebound in the economy and/or general collectors market, a greater willingness to drop massive sums of money on toys, or just stuff gradually working its way into the hands of 'permanent' collectors, while those few remaining for re-sale opportunity get left to bidding wars for the other collectors still needing a piece. Whatever the reason(s), that is one crazy priced toy at the end of the day.
