1st - that farm play set is GREAT! The old Fisher Price playsets are just so darn simple, durable n fun!

Looks like the 'Family Play Farm' also came with an (optional?) grain silo:

LOVE the vintage Sesame St n McDonalds playsets they put out too!

Thank's man! It was so weird to see it on a table at the markets surrounded by 90's junk electronics. So weird.

HAD to rescue it for a Toy Adoption. It's off to Tyler Ham this week.

Wow, those photos bring me back! I'm pretty sure I had that grain silo as a kid. I probably picked it up at a garage sale, hilariously. I wish my mom and dad weren't so stereotypically Catholic, all of my childhood toys save for a select few were donated to charity. So many glorious things lost forever. I guess at least someone else had fun with them, better than going in the trash.

^^ ah . . . Fisher-Price . . . that takes me back :)

I found this cheap Gundam knock-off at the usual boot sale last weekend.
It must of originally had a few weapons etc.

I like the colours on this one!

^^ Nice . . . . 'Combex' were a British company so perhaps 'Plasticraft' had the rights to their stuff in Australia.
Although, i've seen Combex sculpts bootlegged may times, so who knows!

I like both but the dog wins out of the two :)

Local boot-sale. Found in a large bag of 20p toys.
I had to rummage for a few minutes to find his head . . . . . . .

20p is ridiculous, the bloke might as well of given him to me!

Love that Skeletor soakie, and he is in such great condition too. Usually these have been beaten up through the years from use, and especially piled in a toy box, his paint is immaculate. Great hunting find! I think I used to have the matching He-man one.

^^ Great finds . . . i love the elephant night light, he's a beauty :)
Combex did a lot of those . . . they also used to convert their larger squeakers into night-lights too.

I had a good day at this weekends boot-sale.
I found a bunch of vintage cute stuff and also these, amongst others . . .

... thanks and thanks man!

GUESS that means Combex musta had a license or actual plant in Australia. Damn cool to know that connection.

Know much about Combex at all? Heard you say info is scarce...

^^

Yeah, not much is written about them. As far as i can tell they were part of a company called Dunbee-Combex-Marx who went bankrupt in the 70's.
They bought up a lot of other Toy Companies including Mattel's UK interests at the time.

I think it was usual for most major toy manufacturers to have plants in other countries . . . or at least license their sculpts to other companies.
I've seen the exact same sculpts with different makers marks on the base quite a few times.

I'd love to get hold of a catalogue for Combex but i've never seen one for sale or even heard mention of one.
I've also talked to other Combex collectors about it and they say the same . . . . vintage squeaky toys can have very obscure origins.

... huge thanks man!

The nightlights are both from 1982, so after Combex went broke in your notes.

Maybe some Australian company bought the rights?

Ahhh the travels these sculpts have! ;)

Post Re: garage sales
^^ I dunno, that bit about going bankrupt in the 70's was only from one source. Another webpage said 80's.
I find it curious that a large company who obviously pumped-out millions of toys internationally could have so little of their history and products documented.
Its weird.

One advantage of collecting vintage squeaky toys is they are usually a fraction of the price you would pay for most Japanese sofubi.
I also like how they turn up in totally random and unexpected places.

Anyway, back on subject . . . . here's an Italian version Madball (large one on the left) that i found at the usual boot-sale for 10p.
Its a bit squidgy like a proper ball, where as the UK version is a hollow 'spit-ball'.

Found the smaller one on the right for £1 . . . local boot-sale.

"Quid, mate".

Some people have no idea how much stuff is worth!
The larger one is from Japan and cost a fair bit more than a quid . . . . .

These are official plush toys.
It still amazes me how many bootleg Doraemon & Studio Ghibli plushies are out there.
