I enjoyed it a lot. Another of those movies where you are not sure where reality ends or begins. Nightmare on Elm Street was that for me. I think many people missed it that the first movie was an endless dream and conscious reality never existed at all in that film. this one is more about madness. If I see it and no one else does am I crazy? I found it smart and fun...and sad.

Oculus was great. Creepy but it kept that vibe where you stop and think what you would do in the same situation. I watched it twice actually and enjoyed it both times.

I think the CGI versus practical effects will always be a good topic of debate. Personally I love real monsters and try to support the people who still use that stuff whenever I can. Sure high-end CGI can be amazing and do things just not possible any other way but low-end CGI is just horrible to watch. I would take cheesy puppets over garbage CGI any day. I would also pick great practical effects over the best CGI effects as well.

I honestly think it relates to the whole idea of japanese vinyl as well. Handcrafted quality over mass produced digital stuff that may or may not have ever actually had an artists hand involved in the process. Yeah some companies can digitally scan the cast of a popular tv show and make perfect versions of them as toys but that's not my kind of thing at all.

Yeah, its pretty deep. I finally got round to watching it. Scarlett's performance is pitch perfect.
I loved everything about the film, its a good example of 'less is more'.

The way nothing is explained and you are left to make up your own opinion.
The haunting soundtrack.
The atmospheric locations.
The non-actors scattered throughout the film.
The way her 'lair' is depicted.
The cinematography!

If you like your sci-fi dark, weird and challenging . . . I'd say its perfect.
Bits of it scared / unsettled me more than any horror flick i've seen lately.

Sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree. I thought the movie was bad. Not absolutely terrible, but not good. Slow as hell, despite what you can call atmosphere or whatever. And her acting was terrible. Granted, the role called for her to be wooden, but basically she just walked around without displaying any emotion at all.

I did catch two other horror flicks this weekend, though. Splinter was OK. If you like John Carpenter's The Thing, you might like this. There are some similarities. Not a four star movie, but decent.

And Open Grave was not what I expected from the previews. It turns out to be more mystery/drama than horror, but it still definitely falls into the horror genre. Its with the dude from District 9. I really enjoyed this one.

Myself and a few of my friends thought it was genius. Most people seemed to find it incredibly boring.
Its been called a 'Marmite' movie here in the UK . . . because you either love it or you hate it.

You're Next is streaming on netflix now. Great horror flick with impressive gore and decent acting as well. Check it out if you need a solid horror fix.

Poking forward to this halloween season with abc of death 2 and VHS viral coming out. Should be good.

Oh god ABC's of death was horrible. Have to sit through a ton of shit for a few good segments. I'll skip part 2.

I didn't get past the one with the asian schoolgirls. Too bad really, I heard a few of them were really good.

I agree with VHS. Even though I liked part 1 better. Thats not to say I didn't enjoy the sequel.

Am I the only idiot who didn't like You're Next? I found it to be an incredibly average slasher and felt that it telegraphed its every move. I will say it had great gore and good production values. The animal masks the killers used were a nice touch too. Maybe I got too swept up in the hype?

The two VHS's are worth a watch. The stories are hit or miss but the good ones are excellent. From the first I really enjoyed "Amateur Night" and "The Sick Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger".

From the second "Safe Haven" and "Slumber Party Alien Abduction" were excellent.

I actually wish "Safe Haven" and "Amateur Night" had been a full length movies. I didn't want those to end.

I think part of why I liked You're Next so much was because I had no idea what it was all about when I saw it. No hype or expectations or anything. Didn't even catch a trailer. Just liked the animal head on the cover. I thought it was a lot of fun, especially the effects. Might have felt different if I was actually looking forward to it.

Anyone catch this flick yet On Demand? I am curious about it but haven't had time to see it.

Despite being sick of the found footage gimmick that trailer looks promising. And I wasn't calling you out specifically for liking you're next either waterbear. I was really calling myself out because it seems like I'm one of the only horror fans who didn't enjoy it.

Has anyone seen it already?

Watched Oculus last night and thought it was really solid.

Just saw As Above so Below. Way better than the 33% it is getting on Rotten Tomatoes.

That's good news since I kind of wanted to see it.

I was pretty impressed with As Above, So Below as well. It took a directional turn I didn't expect, and I'll admit I found the ending lackluster and unexpected. But it definitely gave the scares and chills I'd hoped for, and then some. Definitely worth seeing at least once in theaters.

I totally understand. I didn't feel called out at all. I really do enjoying discussing horror flicks with people. Even when they have tastes quite different from mine. It's one of those subjects that I feel people can be open and understanding about rather then just defensive.

I saw The Possession of Michael King and really enjoyed it. Other then a few points where the main guy complains a bit too much it really was creepy and jumpy and interesting the entire time. Well acted and nicely filmed with really cringe worthy special effects. Anyone not tired of the found footage genre should check it out.

The Babadook movie looks really promising. Can't ever recall a horror movie pulling a 100% on rotten tomatoes before.

This is the next one on my list. Been waiting awhile for it.

I can't wait for the Green Inferno. Hope it's good old fashion cannibal greatness.

Did anyone else watch The Pact in the last couple years? I really liked the movie but no one else I know has seen it. I thought it was well filmed, acted and really spooky.

Well the sequel just came out and I was worried it would be like most other horror sequels meaning worthless of course but it was actually great! I loved the creepy factor and how it was filmed.

I thought the Pact was terrible. I almost shut it off.
