Okay, I'm crying from laughing so hard at silent throne room. I just let my son watch Star Wars for the first time the other day so this is some added joy.

Wow, so great! I was unfamiliar with Auralnauts before this - I have to say that I wish the rest of their stuff was this spare and perfect.

Old news for most, I'm sure, but I finally got around to having a look at this last week:

Damn enjoyable!

Indeed, and now The Empire Strikes Back Uncut is complete and online. What a change in tone from the days, not so long ago, when Star Wars and Star Trek fan fiction risked C&D threats from the suits at Lucas and Paramount. The fan re-creation of Empire is actually hosted at the official Star Wars YouTube site.

For some reason the YouTube embed tag isn't working for me at the moment but the site is linked via the boldface title above.

I wonder how many people will be willing to take a chance at only 30 USA theaters this coming weekend to see the 88 second The Force Awakens teaser trailer, especially given that they're not even saying which movies it'll play before?

Same here. Kinda feels weird seeing the new faces out of context, but still very excited.

Very very interested to see how this turns out! Hopefully it's a return to form for SW.

Post Re: Sick of Star Wars
An important thing about the making of this film is evident in the teaser: The fact that the crew is, as much as possible, relying on models, actual or constructed locations, and elaborate full scale mock ups of ships and sets, as opposed to over reliance on CGI and green stages. The desert you see is real. The big props in the background were actually built. The Millennium Falcon is a physical model, not a computer-generated one. While I'm not anti-CGI per se I think this is going to go a long way to restore the tactile "used future" look of the '77 film that made it a radical departure from the "clean future" look of most science fiction films up to that point.

As a geek note, one thing I really liked here was that the bad guy's lightsaber beam has a more ragged-edged flamelike look to it. That and the hilt beams are intriguing. So is the character but that's another story...

I loved it. I refuse to show my kids the prequals. So they are super excited. My 8 year old was in awe and the rolling droid/the light saber etc. It's refreshing to see that kind of excitement.

Mitth'raw'nuruodo seems very believable in the context of what's known, but on the other hand the Expanded Universe is allegedly being ignored in the new trilogy. I'm not well-versed enough in the EU to speculate.

I guess the message: 'spam, scams or commercially deceptive' answers my question-.
Looked like a couple old scenes, with lots of new stuff which I suspected were from a videogame. All in a 'trailer' that seemed shot inside a movie theatre just like the one funkyphantom posted.

It's cool that people come up with creative fantasy trailers on their own, but when they pretend that they're "leaks" or "official," that's lame, and apparently LucasMouse doesn't take kindly to it.

On the theme of leaks, I'm assuming other SW fans here have seen the leaked concept art? At first I thought "someone's gonna get it" but later it seemed that the leak was intentional, which made me wonder if Abrams was engaged in another game of viral misdirection à la the pre-release marketing for Cloverfield. But now that the teaser trailer is out, it seems to confirm that the art really is associated with the actual film.

I'm torn how I feel about new Star Wars movies. On the one hand it's new material and that can be exciting, on the other it's JJ Abrams. As long it relies mainly on models and actual locations (as Dean said) and minimal CGI and that hack Lindelof has zero writing input I'll be onboard. Oh and Disney doesn't get to put their little manifesto into it.... :P

Good to see John Boyega get some more work. He's the guy in the Stormtrooper gear at the beginning of the trailer. Thought he was great in Attack The Block.
Allow it.
