 Selling toys in Japan?
Hiya peeps
I have a friend on Flickr who is a long-time toy collector . . . he was asking me the other day about selling toys whilst in Japan. I have no experience of this, but i thought maybe there were some SB'ers who have.
He mentioned he has some 80's Bandai Ultraman Jack among others, and also lots of British toys he thought the Japanese might be interested in. He's going to Tokyo soon.
Does anyone know if Mandarake or any other toy shops in Tokyo would buy toys from a foreigner? I assume Mandarake would pay in cash but i obviously have no idea about this and other details . . . .
Has anyone ever sold toys in Japan or heard about a non-Japanese doing this?

 Re: Selling toys in Japan?
Mandarake might, but they are known for giving very low prices. Might as well put them on eBay.

 Re: Selling toys in Japan?
I don't think anyone would turn down business based on nationality. It might be difficult if your friend cannot communicate.
Stores like Mandarake don't want inventory collecting dust. They'll offer a low price and sell for a competitive price. Like Petite mentioned, eBay is probably a better way to go, unless your friend really wants to take a bunch of toys into Japan.
Also, if you're importing items to sell, you'll have to pay a customs fee. I moved back to Japan a few weeks ago and sent myself 5 resin figures that I made. They are not for sale, but I had to pay $5 per figure in import fees.
Unless your friend is already living in Japan, it might not be worth the effort to try to sell here.

^^ Ah, yeah . . . i never thought of import fees. Thanks for chipping-in guys.
Another thing i've thought of . . . would they evaluate the toys face to face on the same day you brought them in or would you have to leave them at the store until they get around to looking at them?

I took a bunch of books to Mandarake last weekend. You need to fill in a form with name, address etc, and show some id. Don't know how willing they'd be to take a foriegn address/ ID.

This is stoopid crazy. You shouldn't be "selling" toys in Japan... You should be "BUYING" toys in Japan
