Better Call Saul...
...really deserves it's own thread.
I suppose I have a lot to say about the program, but I'll start small and at the beginning: Did anyone besides me know every lilting turn in that Ink Spots' tune like an old friend? Really eased me back into the world in a comforting way.

Re: Better Call Saul...
Yeah, the music is great . . . my brother made the same comment the other day. Loved the Mike back-story episode. I'm liking everything about the show, basically.
I've been a Bob Odenkirk fan for what seems like a long time. He's really killing it with this one!

Mike was one of my favorite characters on bb. That episode about his past was very enjoyable. I'm really digging the show so far.

Re: Better Call Saul...
This show continues to amaze, going strong for that finale. Tragic to see Jimmy's path to becoming Saul. But that trash bin scene was gold! Especially after the reveal of the recycle bin.

^^ Yeah, that was very funny . . .
I like the fact he only passed the bar by the skin of his teeth . . . 3rd times the charm! Seeing the love and responsibility beginning from Mike towards his granddaughter is cool, too.

Re: Better Call Saul...
Last couple of episodes have slowed down a bit in my opinion but the character development is fantastic and I'm sure things will speed up in the coming episodes.

Re: Better Call Saul...
^^ I dunno man, i think the pace of the show is just fine as it is . . .
I watched the most recent episode again last night. Its been bugging me where i've seen the actress who plays Mike's daughter-in-law before. Turns out its 'Rome' - a show i highly rate and recommend. She played Octavia, older sister of Octavian.
She was also in The Walking Dead, but i did'nt recognise her. She played a mad woman living in the woods with her un-dead husband.

I'm with you on the pacing, Joe - I think they're spooling out the stories perfectly, giving each beat enough room to breath. Truth told, I'm pretty sad that this initial run is almost over.

^ Me too.
It has also been nice to see Joe DeRosa as the doctor. He's a good stand-up comedian. Cool to see him in the show, no matter how briefly . . . .

Truth told, I'm pretty sad that this initial run is almost over. I agree with both of you, I think it's just a case of, "the suspense is killing me." I binge watched Breaking Bad on Netflix when the last season started and timed it perfect. Watching one episode at a time with a week in between is kind of hard for me.

Re: Better Call Saul...
^ Ha! Well that's the mark of a fine entertainment, yeah? Last Saturday I actually caught myself being bummed for a second when I realized that there were still two days until Monday night! I'm definitely going to burn through the whole season again once it's over, but I'm enjoying the sweet agony of waiting for each new installment to arrive for now.
I wasn't familiar at all with the actress who plays Kim, Rhea Seehorn, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye out now. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but I'm completely fascinated by her character. Such an interesting counter-point to and companion for Jimmy.

^^ Yeah, i wasn't familiar with her either. I agree - she is a conflicted and interesting character and also perfect as Jimmy's not-so-straight-forward love interest.

Re: Better Call Saul...
I haven't seen Breaking Bad yet (the joys of grad school) but I am watching this with my roommate, who has. It's interesting discussing our experience, as he knows many of the characters and who they ultimately become, and for me, I am taking it all in with a clean slate.
I actually enjoy how the show will linger on moments between characters, and accent the silences they share. It feels more realistic and lets you understand who they are.

It would in fact give him some different insight and perspective towards BB that i did'nt have . . . . I really cant wait to see how this season of Saul is going to end . . . i haven't got a clue. Its very hard to predict. I've purposely stayed away from any reviews or adverts for that reason.

Re: Better Call Saul...
BTW, am I the only one who never put two and two together with "Saul Goodman" and "It's all good man?" I was blown away by that in episode 2 (or whichever it was). All that time watching BB and it never hit me, seems SO obvious now.

86 seconds to the sofa: In praise of Better Call Saul’s slownessA worthwhile little read, as long as you've seen at least the first 5 episodes.

Re: Better Call Saul...
I felt for him! Reminds of of that tense conversation when Hank finally confronted Walt. At least it didnt end in blows.
Mike's B story plot was also a great look into his character.
Hell of a performance from Odenkirk.
I don't want this season to end, it feels like it just started!

Amazing how attached they make you to this show... Only thing that pisses me off is i have to wait every week. I watched Breaking bad on netflix and watched 3 episodes a night and loved it that way.

Re: Better Call Saul...
I love Mike . . . he's a slab-faced and stoic, oracle of truth. His character makes me think of a spaghetti-western gunslinger. A man of few words who doesn't need to show-off and gets the job done with a minimum of fuss. The scene in the car park with the two tough guys! When the big one ran away i was laughing with glee . . .
Poor Jimmy . . . even the brother he loves so much wont give him a break. After all he's done for him! It made me feel better about Jimmy's nemesis, Patrick. Maybe he's not such a douche after all.
I cant wait for the finale and i hope we dont have to wait too long for the next season.

Show really is great. Had a bit of skepticism when the spin off was announced, but thankfully it's not just an attempt to ride BB's coat tails.

Re: Better Call Saul...
The parking lot and subsequent scene with Mike was one of my favorite Mike moments in BCS and BB. I can't wait for the Mike spin off series where it shows his decent into becoming a dirty cop. That's gotta happen, right???
