Great auctions both, nice spotting them Scott. Odd to see another ride pop up, but I suppose when you consider all the shops that must have had these across the country through the decades, they are bound to turn up

But that Ultra tank is something else. Boy I would give a lot for that - well, not as much as it went for probably, even if I could, but a significant amount anyways. I would love to see it reissued or made in vinyl in something I could get my hands on. I am sure a lot of the price has to do with the immaculate condition, but even the toy and design is just wonderful.

They all look like the giant size ones, not bad prices for this day and age.

You are right Scott are the big size version, the same seller have the Fireman Bandai with removable mask and other two vintage figures.
I feel like this days the price of the auctions goes crazy.

Every time I see that Giant Sized Thundermask I think of the one I own (along with the Giant sized Ultra Ace) WITHOUT the removable masks. It kills me, so IF anyone ever sees a loose mask auction for either of those Bandai Giant Sized toys please please pm me (or if they happen upon them). Surely there has to be loose masks with the main toy long gone somewhere!

Can't complain too much I won each of those toys for 4000 and 2500 yen a piece.

Thanks. Just need the removable masks though. Wish there was a vintage spare parts toy shop. Now that would be something I'd frequent!

That would be nice, to sell packages of accessories like MOTU.
But sometimes they come more expensive than the same figures, a few time ago I saw an auction that had Tiger Mask vintage layer but finished in 20k yen and a pair of boots for the standard Kamen Rider they went for 9k yen. :(

Interesting auctions for all of those giants. What I find most notable is that Fireman. Although I have seen quite a few giants - along with other figures - they always seem to have one of two or three variations on the typical head sculpts. That is the only one I have seen that has its distinct character. I really love it. It could be just another standard head mold that also ended up on other figures as well, I am only saying that I have never seen it in my recollection alongside the other common Bandai heads. Really great stuff. Still pricey I think IMO, but the market is going up all the time. :?

Interesting to see how minis were sold back then. It's hard to have perspective of what it was like since I was a kid and not in Japan at the time. When you win individual auctions these days it's easy to envision going into a store back then and buying individual minis, but I guess many were sold as sets. Nice to see how some of these variants of Sarracenia and Otoko came to be (well sold at least).

I completely understand what you are saying, and feel the same way about a lot of these toys Lixx, but I am not so sure it applies in this particular case, as, I could be wrong, but I think that is a bootleg package. Some of the KR minis may well be made right off the licensed molds, but they could have been repackaged like this later, in a period when the toys were not as popular any more (as many of these toys from the 60s and 70s were) and then ended up in discount toy shops. I think that auction might be for an example like this; hence not the official Popy group to use as a judge. But yeah, this is a great set. And going in to the shop to buy one like this would be a pretty great experience, even if they had no collectable value - I would love it as a kid.

Post Re: strange or rare yahoo auctions post here (after theyre o
Here is an auction I was bidding on. I was really excited and thrilled for this when I stumbled across it. I just love any toys with removable masks, but having this also be a 'racer' and a superb Ultra hero, it was a perfect storm of factors in calling out to me. I needed to have it!

It acually ended up at a decent price, but I wanted to share it here because it is somewhat unusual and very cool. Not so expensive, but I had to pull out towards the end. Really bad timing as I just didn't have the money to keep bidding right now, but it also ended up in a 3-way bidding war at the end between myself and two others, so when that kind of thing happens, the prices can go crazy and you never know what can happen. Obviously there were a few others who loved it just as much as me. A fair bit disappointed now of course, but at least I got a shot. Anyway, on to the sweet toy:

A cool toy, no doubt. Although the seller said it has the Tsuburaya copyright, looks like it might be a cheap bootleg/toy shop special. Unfortunately the glue was also applied so poorly, but considering the helmet wasn't ripped at all along the crease, and the sticker was intact and in good condition, ol' Car 56 is a really hard one to have lost. :(

So, this looks like a mash up of a licensed shokugan keshi Ultra with removable helmet (there are 4-5 different ones in the series) jammed into a little Showa era candy store car that kids (back in the day) might have selected from a giant glass jarful for 5 yen each. Looks fun, but the price is way out there.

Here was another interesting auction from the same seller. A bit more pricey though. I quite like this Mazinger. He is a bit goofy looking, but I have seen some crazy bootleg interprations of Mazinger toys - maybe more than anything in fact - and this is actually a licensed Popy. Came with the jet scramber too.

I saw that Mazinga too Ultrakaiju, they appears with some regularity but always ended between the 150,000 yen and 200,000yen. A few months ago I saw one in bag and ended in 230,000 yen.
By the way is one of my favorites.

Here is an interesting one that ended yesterday. An OG as far as I am concerned, a nice example (some small paint rubs and transfer) of the Marusan Gomess. :) A really classic figure, but a lot of money to spend as well, for a sculpt that has been reproduced in so many other fashions. But still, a really nice shot at one of the first Ultra toys. I am guessing it is especially an early example, as the stamp is on the side of the foot, rather than underneath its base as is the norm. And it garnered quite a bit of activity too. Probably going to fill a much-desired for gap in someone's collection.

Hmmm, so I guess there are not that many other Ultra-Q lovers on the board these days? Well, I remain excited about these kind of toys just the same anyhow. :)

Would have liked to throw my hat into the ring for this giant Silver Kamen, but alas, it ended up there. Nice toy though. Tough to find many giant sizes with the mask for some reason, and Silver Kamen is one of those that doesn't pop up as often as other heroes. Considering one just sold recently (above) I guess the market is getting ever tougher for these toys.
