Yup - the cover alone sold me! Really hoping my order comes through.

Post Re: comics?
I recently purchased a original 1954 & 1957 Godzilla manga. Very exciting to get this as I have been wanting it for so long. I started out collecting comic books before kaiju toys. And I loved watching Godzilla and kaiju movies when I was a child. So to have this in my comic collection is real special to me. Shown is the very first Godzilla manga from 1954. I took pictures of the front, side binding, and back cover. The manga is a little fragile so I didn't want to fold it flat in one picture and took the pictures separately.

This is some seriously cool stuff! Love the angle, very cinematic! Hopefully this will get translated in the future. Meanwhile I'm enjoying the artwork!

Here is a blog primarily about older, schmaltzy comics. Might have to check out his book, as well.

I love Vaughan but for some reason Saga didn't resonate with me. It was okay but I could put it down and be content not reading the other arcs.

I'm currently reading Pluto and halfway through the series. Love it.

^^ Yeah, Pluto. The manager of my local Forbidden Planet kept telling me how good it was for ages.
I ended up grabbing a whole set on ebay and really enjoyed it.

I hadn't heard of Pluto until now, but it does sound intriguing. I might just have to track down a copy of the first volume to give it a go. Problem is I already have so many other reading targets on the backburner.

^^ I know exactly what you mean . . . i keep meaning to dive into 'Wounded Man' but i never seem to get round to it.

Thanks for the link. Speaking of older comics, has anyone read these two weird and wonderful books?
'I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets!' and 'You Shall Die by Your Own Evil Creation!'
I started reading them again recently and forgot how good they are . . . .

Image

They are collections from a guy called Fletcher Hanks who worked very briefly in comics. The stories and art
defy easy categorization. I think, 'idiosyncratic' is a good word to use.

^^ Oh, you wont be disappointed . . . . the guy was weird as hell without trying to be weird. He was apparently just doing his version of
'superhero' stuff but unintentionally created a very off-beat world.

Yeah, i totally missed that one. The sofubi version is the first one below. I'd love it, of course.

I hope the new Marvel Universe won't loose the creative liberty they've had lately.
Bought this week's Deadpool for Spidey's cameo and found this article about it. The shield part is amazing !

Ha, yeah I read that a few days ago too. What an odd and random thing to incorporate into the 'canon' world of the comics. :) As for the creative license, it is hard to say. I can certainly see Marvel having a very heavyhanded approach with storylines in order to tie-in with all their long-term plans, and ongrowing growth, especially in light of the ever popular MCU, but, at the same, they have also clearly demonstrated they will re-write and film whatever they want in the way that they want to, in the face of existing storylines (something you may have guessed I am not such a fan of), so you can't really say for sure.

I think all new all different marvel will have a very interesting take on continuity and story telling. It has this weird opportunity to make things click and feel fresh without alienating completely like the new 52 did to some of us.
