Post Re: JACK KIRBY
I remember being sent to the principals office during junior high for fighting. A fellow comic book aficionado and I where having a discussion about who was the best comic book artist of all time and when I brought up Jack Kirby the young gentleman leveled insults at him and it was go time. talk about geeky juvenile delinquents. Hail King Kirby!

I just read this article about some newly released and recoloured Kirby art that is coming out soon, with some preview prints available at SDCC. You can see some of his amazing otherworldly interpretations for the [now unfortunately famous] film, Argo (based on Lord of Light). You can see the Heavy Metal connection there in the psychedelia, and the crazy space-Hinduism of the designs, but there is no question in seeing them that it is undoubtebly classic Kirby. In everything he did, the man was a geniius at the craft. I am not sure the over-the-top colour schemes they have used compliment his work so much, which is unfortunate in these cases, and it comes off as more distracting I find, but I always still like looking at Kirby art. Personally, I think these need the traditional four colour printing and pairing with some of his excellent inking partners and they would stand out that much more.

A few examples:

A few more, and the full article available here.

That Kamandi artist Edition came out last week. I know Royer inked a good deal of that and I remember always loving his work with Jack.

The black light Kirby prints that will be at SDCC are $200+

Does anyone know why they are so expensive?

Anyone in the California area has a great chance to check out the show Comic Book Apocalypse: The Graphic World of Jack Kirby, currently on at the CSUN/Mike Curb College of Arts, Media and Communication main gallery. Show info is here, and runs until October. There is a special curator presentation coming up by Charles Hatfield, as well as open discussion forum later on. Don't miss it if you have the opportunity.

More detailed information on the exhibit itself can be gleaned from the link below:
