All right, here as a slight continuation from my earlier post. Another really great racer, this time a Mazinger-Ultra hybrid! :)

'Car 67' features a crazy mash-up of a mask/helmet of the classic Go Nagai robot (presumably pinched from some other toy - I can't quite identify it off hand) and a really great Ultraseven driver. You get double yer mask pleasure! Slightly different construction than the last example. I wonder how many of these are out there, and if there is any rhyme or reason to the boots; or if it is just a hodgepodge of random joy. If nothing else, it wins for such odd creativity. I can picture a series of these hanging gleefully from souvenir toy/candy stalls calling out to all the Japanese children as they passed by. Look, I know these toys are silly, but I love 'em. I would have been so happy to drive one of these around all over the darned place when I was a kid.

I would have bit on that race car if it stayed a little lower. The Maz tie-in drew me in, but it ended too high. Been losing out on a ton recently. That's probably a good thing.

Anyone have any idea why these ended up like this? I thought they were just large blow molds and was thinking of placing a bid. Second bid was a dozzy.

That is a strange one Connell. Not sure why it ended up so high. It is difficult to tell, the Ultraman could be a licensed Marusan, or just a poly boot. Could be because the Spectreman is a real bootleg/unusual character, which is garnering more attention these days, but I can't see that fact justifying the price either. Not sure if the Giant Robo is anything special either. I can't exactly recall seeing it before, but there are so many poly variations out there, it is hard to know. This could be something special (I should check some more on the description) or could also be one of those odd cases of inexplicable bidding on YJA.

Post Re: strange or rare yahoo auctions post here (after theyre o
^^ Just for interest I placed the 2 bids on those Polys... there was a reserve which I didnt crack with my 2 bids then when the auction ended it showed up at 500,000 which was not the bid so maybe it showed the reserve at the end - I was only 485,000 short ....so close :?

heres another pricey Poly ... Im not sure why - I have others in that series like Barom 1, gekko Kamen and some others but they can be had (even bagged) for under 10k

That was odd, I was watching that one very keenly too. It is a lovely poly figure, and the quality is better than the usual boots, but wowsers, pricey. Could be that it is in such great shape, especially since the sticker on these can get damaged so easily, but still, that is a pretty hefty premium. I would have loved a shot at him, as I think he has a great expression, but I'll have to stick to enjoying pictures. Stuff is getting pretty pricey in Japan these days.

Post Re: strange or rare yahoo auctions post here (after theyre o
wow, I have never seen one of those still in the bag. There are several of these characters in this form, I have a Kamen Rider, BArom-1, Flying Attack Human, Thundermask, Gekko Kamen and this Devilman (although my stickers are ripped). All the others are usually cheap, but Devilman was always 2-300. 181,000 is crazy, but it is devilman, it is rare, and it has a bag. Someone went for it! Agreed on prices these days, things have been crazy!

Devilman looks like he's either a two dimensional character or someone who wants to get on a treadmill to lose those chubby thighs! Love em' though....

This auction is from a few years ago with no bag or stickers (color looks lighter too). Makes this last one not seem so bad.

I apologise for my overt enthusiasm, but this was a really GREAT auction. I was so interested in bidding on this lot, and eagerly waiting the week for it to close. And the bids remained actually fairly reasonable up until near the end of it [darn you, false hope!]. :| This is basically my dream action figure, a superb vinyl body hero, just excellent Ultra suit and accessories, and an entire series of masks to cover every one of your Ultraman (and woman) dreams. With this set you get the ability to create an original '66 Ultra, Ultraseven, Jack, Ace, Father of Ultra, Taro, Mother of Ultra, and Leo. That is eight (!) joyous characters in one grouping to satisfy all of your Ultraventures, :D And those colours - perfect! Really, this is just one great set, full stop. I would be just ecstatic to have this guy in my home. But alas, that play factor comes with a hefty price. Too bad you don't see too many of these come up for sale.

I will be revisiting this one in my dreams I am sure.

Some additional pics below, for all of us Ultra geeks:

That is a cool figure. He is just begging to be freed from that nasty package though so he can be played with with sword in hand. :) It is unfortunate you don't get to see many samurai style vinyl figures.

I have been meaning to post this one too, and after talking about him with another boardie, reminded me I should share it here too. This was a really difficult auction to gauge. It is for a rare blue repaint of a Gomora figure that came out as a special release in 1975. It is not often you get to see one of these, but at the same time, that makes it difficult to be certain whether it is genuine or not, as they do tend to have a rather different paint application than normal. The metallic blue is applied liberally on top of a flesh vinyl figure (you can just make this out where the paint has worn on the bottom of the feet).

I don't know the exact history of how these were made, but as far I was aware they were done on [presumbaly leftover] Bullmark figures. This one, though, is clearly an early Marusan body. I have not seen that before. So, that means it could be more rare, has having an earlier already pulled toy from 1966 when these were made, or one should be slightly wary. Judging from the bidding on him though, everything was fine, or people were willing to take a gamble. Not that I suspect anything, just that I have seen repainted vintage figures. No extra description was given for clarification, but I see now going back that the seller later added the note that the blue paint was original, so there you are. I assume other people had also asked about this. Anyways, a really nice chance to own one, and he is in superb shape considering vintage toys. I love seeing him in blue. A pretty rare version of a great kaiju. I enjoyed seeing him come up for sale, even if I wasn't the lucky bidder taking him home this time.

I think this Akado SuzunoSuke figures are bootlegs (I've only seen four different characters of this series), I only have seen a couple of them on auctions but always ended too high. A few months ago I saw one in de Bay and it ended in: $100 USD. I regret for not betting on it.
Best regards!

-----------------------------
I was interested in the blue Gomora and bid on it. However, I didn't bid aggressively due to my doubts about the legitimacy of the figure. The blue paint looked too good to be true since it didn't appear to show any wear on the horns or claws -- two areas in which vintage Gomoras usually show paint wear. The wear on the feet looked more so as though the paint had been intentionally rubbed off to show the color of the vinyl underneath. Also, the fact that it was a Marusan stamped figure and not a Bullmark threw me for a loop as I always thought the blue Gomora was a Hawaii spray Bullmark and not a Marusan.

Even though I had my doubts about the figure, I bid on it since it had such great eye appeal. Too bad I got outbid...

That is a n interesting one Roger. Did it say whether this was a licensed figure? Sure looks like a bootleg to me, and I have seen similar hero-type figures in this pseudo large action figure type construction, but that KR is a new one to me. He actually looks like he could fit right in standing beside some of the modern counterparts.

In the auction don't say nothin about if it's a licensed figure, but it looks like a bootleg to me too.
I think Scott can know more about this type of Kamen Rider figure.
I like a lot the grasshopper aspect of the head!

Excuse me while I go pick up my socks.

What a beauty that guy is! Pricey sure, but just as amazing. I actually really love the non-traditional yellow on his 'android' half - goes so well with the colour of the figure. But the fact that it still works, and has that light up action, consider me astounded and impressed. The head is great and incredibly cool, but the added chest engine puts it over the top. That is just a perfect cyborg toy right there, and in such nice shape.
