Sweet!^^^

Yeah definitely the bag tax on that price, although it looks to be in spectacular shape. No rubbing or chips on those silver eyes (hard to come by in that shape). I paid 33000 yen for my 'unbagged' one a few years back. Of course not readily seen in the pic is a sword that should be floating around in that bag I believe (but maybe not unless it's attached the the backing insert)

Redman seems to be one of the harder Bullmark standard clears to come by..

That is a bit of an oddball indeed. Looks like it might be larger scale figure. And I recognise the Kobe Toy store background in those pics if I am not mistaken. Overly-obsessive vintage toy geek, that is me. :P

It is actually deceving. As amazing and ultimately inclusive as the display cabinets look, the shop itself is pretty tiny, and tucked away in an enclosed shopping arcade beneath the rail tracks. They used to have the most impressive display of a vintage KR collection I had ever seen (well, and then that massive lot that was auctioned).

I've only seen pictures of the store, but is seen to have a large assortment of vintage figures. I hope to go some day, I think I could spend hours there. :D

Best regards!

Yeah most of those cool vintage stores are painfully small and if your a big fellow like me you take up most of the free space .... and then I find myself looking at the time and embarrassingly realizing ive been in there for more than an hour

That tigermask is great ..same series as this KR

This one was suspicious to me as well. I need to confirm the foot stamp on mine, but I have seen this figure bootlegged before (but usually without the green paint on the chest and painted on a 1983 flesh bootleg figure) and sold from a legit store (not naming names). The paint looks too good to be true, and unfortunately my memory says that this should be a Bullmark stamp, but I cannot remember properly. I think there were a lot of hesitant bidders as well, or we would have seen this fetch a much higher price.

That is a cool figure. He is just begging to be freed from that nasty package though so he can be played with with sword in hand. :) It is unfortunate you don't get to see many samurai style vinyl figures.

I have been meaning to post this one too, and after talking about him with another boardie, reminded me I should share it here too. This was a really difficult auction to gauge. It is for a rare blue repaint of a Gomora figure that came out as a special release in 1975. It is not often you get to see one of these, but at the same time, that makes it difficult to be certain whether it is genuine or not, as they do tend to have a rather different paint application than normal. The metallic blue is applied liberally on top of a flesh vinyl figure (you can just make this out where the paint has worn on the bottom of the feet).

I don't know the exact history of how these were made, but as far I was aware they were done on [presumbaly leftover] Bullmark figures. This one, though, is clearly an early Marusan body. I have not seen that before. So, that means it could be more rare, has having an earlier already pulled toy from 1966 when these were made, or one should be slightly wary. Judging from the bidding on him though, everything was fine, or people were willing to take a gamble. Not that I suspect anything, just that I have seen repainted vintage figures. No extra description was given for clarification, but I see now going back that the seller later added the note that the blue paint was original, so there you are. I assume other people had also asked about this. Anyways, a really nice chance to own one, and he is in superb shape considering vintage toys. I love seeing him in blue. A pretty rare version of a great kaiju. I enjoyed seeing him come up for sale, even if I wasn't the lucky bidder taking him home this time.

-----------------------------
I was interested in the blue Gomora and bid on it. However, I didn't bid aggressively due to my doubts about the legitimacy of the figure. The blue paint looked too good to be true since it didn't appear to show any wear on the horns or claws -- two areas in which vintage Gomoras usually show paint wear. The wear on the feet looked more so as though the paint had been intentionally rubbed off to show the color of the vinyl underneath. Also, the fact that it was a Marusan stamped figure and not a Bullmark threw me for a loop as I always thought the blue Gomora was a Hawaii spray Bullmark and not a Marusan.

Even though I had my doubts about the figure, I bid on it since it had such great eye appeal. Too bad I got outbid...

Thanks for the info Brian. It is really helpful to get some second opinions on figures like these. I really appreciate learning more on the history of these toys, and lacking any comprehensive source (that is to say, not just having photos), at least what I know of in English, the best way is just to discuss it amongst fellow collectors. I'd be interested to know how it ended up with the buyer. I suppose if it was a main shop or something, they would be willing and have the money to take a chance, but that is another of the reasons I am hesitant to drop too much money on an online auction, where you don't have the chance to really check out a toy in person. As far as I was aware I had seen the later 'export' versions with Bullmark stamps too, but they could easily exist in both, or double stamps possibly. Mark (always incredibly helpful, thank you buddy!) gave me the heads up that the Gomora is shown in a couple of the standard catalogues (e.g. Sanford Mock, Nishimura Monster and Hero Treasure, Beautiful book of Monsters) but I don't have any on hand at the moment to check or verify if there are any photos of the markings. For reference, since I couldn't find much additional info, here is another photo of the Gomora in question:

Image

You can see more of the standard wear in the usual places in this photo, and the lighter flesh toned vinyl underneath. The colouring looks a little different, but one can expect some variation between figures, and of course the photo conditions, processing, and quality are always extremely subjective and can't be relied on accurately for judgement.

I remember watching that auction when it ran, and thinking it was a repaint / painted bootleg. The pics only confirm it to me. Lacks the red in the mouth, too glossy, and lacks typical wear.

Glad you enjoy it, I knew it would be expensive but not that much. :o
I love the art in the box and I wish I could play with him, but I think it would not have the heart to get it out of the box.

Best regards!

I am not sure what happened with that auction. Even for a superb toy like a Bullmark Leo, that seems outrageous. I take it you mean the mask is removable (as opposed to a replacement, or it makes even less sense). It is a wonderful toy, but that is really pricey. Going back a few pages, you can see a identical one in all original condition and with his box went for 63,000 円.

Bullmark missile-firing Ultraman Leo auction
(lower auction, just below the sparker)

Things are getting more expensive now in the vintage sector, but that is a massive difference.

Bid on these cute little finger puppets until they went through the roof. Bid ended at 76,600 yen with 61 bids.
Anyone have an ID on these. Are they patchi?

They are legit and difficult to come by .. I always thought they were Osato but closer examination of some of my osato finger pups and some of my KR ones reveals some differences in the writing... can anyone translate this...
Image

and for your reference here are different size/style Fingerpups I grabbed off my shelves by the same maker

Image

The KR is a pachi and the Saboteguron is from the same series as the above (there are some posts on pg 53 regarding the V3 versions which also fetch a pretty price)

東映Toei - thats a start, at least they all licensed - none of the above fingerpups have maker markings then except the Sarracenian.

as a set from Kamen Rider but never saw them nor the package
