I went for only one too. Cytron. I'll be waiting for the painted ones though! I don't mind the bodies being the same, I like it because older ones were just like that. Would love to have one of each colour.

Part of the charm of the originals to me is the size. I think it's Awesome that the Skullmark pieces were produced and I've expressed my excitement for these releases, but there's something missing from the larger figures that I get from the originals. Ha, how vague can I get?..

Perhaps it's because they were developed to fall in with the Star Wars action figure line - in a similar medium, body size, and design. In fact, same goes with Star Wars for me. Im not a regular collector of them as I am the Starroid figures, but I like the original toys better than the Medicom sofubi full size versions of recent.

Like always, it comes down to personal taste, and maybe I'd feel differently had I not been exposed to the original Tomland figures beforehand. But I do think that some toy designs fit better in certain mediums & specific sizes than they do in others, which is why full size vinyl figures don't always translate well as keshi, and vice versa. Action Figures to soft vinyl toys at more than 3x their original size is a big difference. And don't get me wrong, I think they have been done Really well and hope to have a couple, but between the two, I prefer the action figure versions.

I actually get just what you are saying because I completely agree. While the vinyl figures are great, the Tomland toys to me are all about a specific style and type of toy, that these larger new issues just aren't. I love the Starroid line precisely because of their quirky bootleg style; and the size is a major part of that, as you have said. They exactly capture that brilliant pulp sci-fi feel in their space-monsterish cuteness, in the scale of a 3 3/4" action figure line that marks a specific era of toys. And the materials are also an integral part of that. For me, the squishy heads and hard plastic bodies are exactly the kind of cheap, playful toy I love, and which made the Starroids fantastic and unique. While they look great in soft vinyl, they just are a whole different animal. Which is fine, it is just not the same as the Starroid line, and will never have that same appeal [to me]. But, I came into toys on Fisher Price and Star Wars - not to mention all the many, many things that followed in this scale - so you can never surpass the feelings of your first love.

With the 'but' here being - and yes, there has to be one - short of getting some more vintage Starroid figures, or seeing some new creations made in the same line true to the originals - the Galaxy Commander line is still a welcome addition and I will happily admire them and appreciate them for vinyl toys and for the homage to a classic line. So for that reason I think it is pretty exciting. Ideally, I think these fit best next to their smaller counterparts, just like in the preview shots.

Haven't been paying attention, so I managed to totally miss the existence of this excellent crossover:

Hey Steve, isn't it 9.525cm scale toys that you adore? :P

Very well put, Steve. I need to hire you to be my "what I mean " translator ;) I always feel like I have difficulty expressing my point, and you seem to translate your thoughts to type with finesse and clarity. Surely I'm not the first to say so.

The Skullmark vinyls are definitely cool toys. I wonder if they'll end up releasing the entire roster. Hopefully sales have been good enough to go in that direction. I like some of the stranger looking heads.
