it was an interesting pilot. definitely has a distinct feel than it's parent show. hopefully they keep cliches to a minimum and pick up the pace just slightly.

I found all the characters unlikable. I'll at least watch a few more eps while they introduce some more characters and hope for the best. I like Shawn Hatosy so it would be nice if he has an interesting char, rooting for him after Southland. In general it was about as meh as I expected, with a slightly worse female lead.

So this is going to get to the point where we are in TWD rather quickly no? this also showed us rather quickly that you don't have to be bit to turn. After one episode it seems like it might be on the same terms as TWD at the end of season 1 if not 2, as they already stated 5 states are seeing these events. so we literally are just getting to see whats happening on the other side of the country right? also this is LA right? they did a good job not really letting you see license plates... yes you see a metro skyline... but hell I couldn't distinct it was LA, but rather an educated guess.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
Just an observation, not trying to ruffle feathers, and nothing new, but AMC's portrayal of African Americans is hardly salvaged by this new 'companion series'. We all see how African Americans have been portrayed in Walking Dead. Unless you are Lennie James' Morgan or Michonne you are pretty much zombie fodder or a plot device. I mean are you telling me in an area like Atlanta you would not have more African Americans that can survive and thrive? Already the three characters on FTWD of that decent are: highschool administrator who you can clearly see is turned into a zombie in the Comicon preview, Matt (Alicia's b/f) who is a graffiti artist wanting to come back and tag a mural (and seemingly dies off screen), and Calvin who at first appears to be a nice guy but is later proven to be nothing more than a murderous drug dealer and a plot device for zombie discovery. Way to break stereotypes on TV AMC. Something different? How about the same ol' shit.
Oh and nothing against my friends who are British, Australian, New Zealander, but is it really that hard to find leads that are actually American? 3 out of 4 leads? Don't get me wrong I love Cliff Curtis and if you can act, the role should go to whomever pulls it off the best- but geez. I'm starting to think the only talented actors and actresses in the world are of British decent. I mean they do great American accents so more power to them I guess.
The actor who plays Nick is Stannis from Game of Thrones son in real life.

Thought the same. Figured it would start well before where it did.

I read that the pilot was filmed in LA, but the rest of the season was filmed in Vancouver.

I need to pick you up right now, all of our lives are in danger... where are you?
- No time for that. We are protesting the death of a homeless guy. This is important.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
I think that should be the new format of discussion psilo- just screen caps with the our own sarcastic captions. Now if only I could figure out a way past Apple coding (downloaded episodes from iTunes) to actually capture the screenshots. All I get are checkboard squares and it wont play on VLC.
I started my semester this morning so I was tense and only slept 4 hrs. But waking up to this garbage was so annoying. Really those snotty teenagers need to all die. It was cliche city that whole episode. We go from "what's going on?" last week to the characters going: "we need to get to the fucking desert quick!" this week. But not many fill in the blanks slow burn. Personally I felt it jumped too quickly and when it did jump it was super lame. I felt like this should have been the 2nd to last episode of the season not the 2nd episode of the season.
The nerdy kid? WTF?! You're supposed to be a smart kid who saw this coming yet you leave your house to come back to a school far away and get your letter opening knife? You telling me you can't find a better knife much closer? Makes no sense. Then you both leave all the cans behind? Wtf!

Also wondered why the kid was so concerned with a steak knife. That and why the parents wouldn't tell the daughter what was going on. Maybe then she wouldn't risk her life to check up on a dead guy.

Me too, my brother insisted it was always going to be just a spin-off but i could of sworn they've been promoting it as a 'prequel'. I find this confusing . . . so its going to be pretty much the same except following a different group.
Either way, i thought the pilot was entertaining enough.

If they were smart (and AMC execs aren't that clever) they would use this opportunity to maybe NOT get fans so invested in characters like they did with WD. For example they touted that "NO ONE IS SAFE" early on in WD but we all know thanks to fanboys and girls that became not true pretty quick. So with FTWD they could quickly introduce and kill characters VERY often (even leads) so you would actually tune in because you never knew who was going to die. That would be a pleasant change. Instead of barely building up character backgrounds and then killing them on WD simply to move a plot line forward, all the while knowing the big leads always make it through.

So the intelligent kid with the knife is basically a clone of Eugene then? I wonder what other characters will be recycled . . . .
I'm still on board after ep2, its not an amazing show so far, but i like it enough to keep watching.

broke down and bought season pass. I couldn't believe they didn't ask her boyfriend a million questions. So far enjoy it and looking forward to more.
Read so many theories on how it would start and loved watching a theory brought to life with the homeless/druggies, I did wish they would have spent more time with that. With skid row being there the infection would run rampant with no one ever noticing, but looks like the next episode will be past that.
the cast made me think of this
A&E listening to their viewers, HA! I'm sure they are just grasping for an international audience
Watching the cop load up on supplies caught me off guard. I hope things don't really unravel that quickly.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
Well this week it picked up a little and Nick the junkie and Daniel the barber are still the only ones with any actual real common sense. Everyone else wants to give zombies hugs.
After the tunnel experience and then dealing with what happened with the principal at the school. I don't think the best thing to do is go home and play monopoly. After last nights episode, I only like the barber. The dad/boyfriend is super annoying and is extemely lucky he isn't dead.

This.
Dad is a dumb-ass if he can't figure out what's going on. He's seen the same thing his girlfriend and her son have.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
What gets me is that much like in the walking dead we are supposed to believe everything happens in a universe where zombies never existed. I don't mean as a real thing but the same way vampires and werewolves exist. It's just stupid that this stuff happens and no one ever says "I think they are zombies!" or "Hmmm George Romero was right." or anything along those lines. It's a little annoying.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
That is exactly what I was thinking during this episode. When they see the male neighbor in the street I was thinking druggie should be saying, "He's a zombie now!" Or the female neighbor trapped in that maze thingie. "Uh honey, she's a zombie now, there's no saving her."

What exactly was that maze thing supposed to be? I've never seen anything like it here in the UK. It just seemed an elaborate way of adding tension and danger to a normal 'backyard'.

Yeah. Get with the program! Even if you dont know whats causing it and whether a victim could be 'cured' or not, its very obvious anyone 'infected' should be avoided at all costs.
I liked ep3. Its interesting the way they think they are safe now because some soldiers have turned up!

Good job leaving the door open for neighborzombie, where is fucking Darwin when you need him?
Also indoor shotgun blasts w/o ear protection is a great way to permanently destroy your hearing

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
Yeah the Dad went from sensible guy to absolutely brain dead in the span of three episodes. I hate when writers make people stupid and lacking in all common sense just to prove their mythology ethos of "no one has ever heard of zombie in this world" and "these people are new to zombie apocalypse so there is a learning curve". Really? How about a "human fucking instinct for surviving at all cost" curve?
Really unless you absolutely sleepwalk through life and are a true idiot what part of the brain would not react to a stumbling, non communicating bloody person coming at you with their hands trying to take a chunk out of you?

Should be cool to watch the military fall apart just like normal people. Walking Dead has only shown us shots of military camps and whatnot after the fall.

Thought of another thing Travis (Dad) said: "I don't believe in guns!" Probably not the best words to come out of your mouth during the zombie apocalypse
