I liked season one, but this season is better in my book. Pretty much every character is awesome.

Yeah I realized that right away from the first episode (younger versions of familiar characters from season 1). I just suspected as the series continues (and why not it's so good) they'll just keep going back in years, i.e. season 3 will be in the 60's.

I think I just went into this season thinking, other than the setting, that there was no connection to the previous season. Now I want to go back and watch the episodes with Carradine and see if he mentions anything about this case.

In Season 1, Lou Solverson mentioned being on the case of the Sioux Falls Massacre that occurred when he was a younger cop which caused him to quit the force and open his own diner. I have a feeling we will see how that massacre went down in this season...

Fargo is one of the most tense and intriguing shows to come out in a long time! I love everything about it!

I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon of saying that this season is better than the first. And the first was pretty dang great!

Apparently I've also missed a bunch of UFO and alien stuff. Dang, and I've always prided myself on catching this kind of stuff in movies and TV.

Tonight's stew was peppered with plenty of Barton Fink. When I saw the shape of that box on the desk I thought it was going to go a whole different way; figured it was empty and waiting to be filled.

Went back and watched the scene with Hanzee at the waffle house again - the diner clock read 7:07; Hanzee's watch read 9:07. Fun.

The reddit threads must be 1,400 miles long by now, huh?

Another good episode . . . the story is moving on at quite a pace. I was expecting it to go slower but its all good in my book.

I wonder if the actors playing the kitchen brothers flipped a coin to see who would stay and who would go?

I'm intrigued to see where the UFO thing is going to end up. There's about one little teaser per episode,
like in the last one it was young Molly's drawing:
Image

I dont remember any mention of UFO activity in the first season. Does anyone else?

Also, my friend at work and i cant help thinking of Iggy Pop every time the native American guy Hanzee
is on screen. Something about his glare, body stance and the craggy face . . . .

Didn't catch the ufo in that drawing, thanks. Just thought it was the sun.

This is my favorite show on tv right now be it network, cable, or pay channel.

They are saying on some websites its all in reference to a real-life sighting that was reported in Minnesota in 1979.
Here's whats on the 'Bustle' . . .

There has been one passing reference to the visitors from outer space in all four episodes of the season so far. Aside from the flying saucer that Rye Gerhardt observed before getting hit by Peggy's car in "Waiting For Dutch," there was also the episode-ending narration from War Of The Worlds in "Before The Law," Lou's conversation with the "I Want To Believe" stranger in "The Myth Of Sisyphus," and Hanzee's strange loss of two hours after glimpsing strange lights outside the Waffle Hut in "Fear And Trembling."

August 27, 1979 — Deputy Sheriff Val Johnson of Marshall County was on duty that night, driving not far from the North Dakota border, when at around 1:40 a.m. he saw a light through his side window. [...] Suddenly, the light moved toward him, traveling so fast that it almost instantaneously was upon his car (covering an estimated mile and a half). Johnson was blinded by the brilliance of the light and heard glass breaking, then lost consciousness. When he returned to consciousness, the car was stalled and had skidded across the highway. He felt sluggish and shaky. He radioed headquarters, at 2:19 a.m., to request assistance. Soon another deputy arrived, who called an ambulance. The doctor who examined Johnson found him to be in a mild state of shock. His eyes were irritated as if Johnson had suffered "mild welder's burns," and Johnson couldn't stand to be exposed to any bright lights.

Mid to late 70's had a lot of UFO sightings across the States. This was around the time of a lot of cattle mutilations (eyes and genitalia missing, laser like surgery, no auto tracks or other tracks visible). Since then the aliens seemed to have progressed to crop circles.

Maybe adding Stooges to last nights sound track was because of the Hanzee looki a like?

So, what happened to Dodd Gerhardt? You dont usually die when cattle prodded numerous times do you?
That bit when he shot his own henchman was perfect . . .

Does anyone know what the bearded Gerhardt brother was talking to the dad about, on the porch?

This show is the best thing on TV.

What I caught from the bearded bro (Bear) talking to his dad was wishing his big brother was still alive as he was the true heir, not Dodd. Not sure if that was it or there was more though.

Offerman was indeed fantastic.

I don't think Dodd is dead, but, boy those Blumquists can sure handle themselves can't they. First time I kinda had a problem with the writing this season though was how Dodd lost the prod. Ooh, this is too tight so I'll just drop this cattle prod and not bother to pick it back up. I knew those boys were gonna have a fight on their hands though, since the Blumquists have dumb luck on their sides. I love how Danson told Peggy she was, "kinda touched."

Oh, and I've been rewatching all the episodes to catch a lot of stuff I missed the first time, and there was a question at some point here about the fire in the butcher shop shoot-out. I finally realized the kid hit a junction box right over the garbage can with his first shot, and sparks went everywhere.

I liked that bit too. Its a good explanation to why she did what she did. As a couple they both seem to be living in La-La Land. He seems to
be living in a dream-world just like her . . . its like they dont truly know each other.

Yeah, to me it plays like the football star and the head cheerleader got married because that's what you do in a small town, and they have no idea who the other is. Another thing I finally clued in on is that the conference Peggy keeps going on about is for Lifespring. Pretty interesting story there.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifespring

I think Peggy and Ed are going to come out of this thing unscathed, and that a bunch of innocent people are going to get killed at that conference. The Sioux Falls Massacre.

Did our aliens show up last night? I missed them if they did.

^ Hadn't noticed the drawing in episode one, but it's not surprising that they had it in there from the beginning. This whole year has been a beautiful game of cat's cradle so far.

Here's an interview with Noah Hawley from a few weeks ago that talks about, among other things, intentionality when planning a season:

Good stuff.

This one is with the same two fellas from last year:

That sounds spot-on, thanks.

I rewound and turned on the closed caption for that part - Bear's "accent" is mumbly as shit! But yeah, that was the gist of the conversation.

I'm really impressed how every week I think "no way I can like this show more than I already do..." and then they prove me wrong yet again!

My one big concern with this season before it started was that it'd be too much wink-wink-it's-the-70s-look-at-these-goofy-hairstyles-and-outfits-and-listen-to-their-funny-retro-jargon but holy shit not only is it NOT like that (and when it sorta is, it's totally subtle and rad) but more about some of the dark vibes that Americans were dealing with and how so many of them were kinda fucked up and freaked out post-Nam (that line where Mike Milligan says the 70s are the 60s hangover - so good!) which I was totally not expecting.

And man, did they NAIL it with the sweet casting! I've never been a huge Patrick Wilson fan, but he's perfect in this and I've always loved Ted Danson and it's great to see him sinking his teeth into a tasty role again. So many underrated actors getting to play with such juicy roles - Bokeem Woodbine, Brad Garrett and Jean fucking Smart! (she's totally gonna get an Emmy for this, I bet)

I really hope they can pull it all off by the end! (and if last season is any indication, there's a pretty good chance they will!)

Very good listen. Glad they touched on the whole Mike Yamagita bit from the movie. That scene perplexed me for the longest time.
