Here's a sweet bit of cheese that I'd forgotten all about:

A brief chat today in the horror thread reminded me of it.

    Starfish
    Of human blood shape
    Tentacles of human gore
Spread out on the pavement from the 99th floor

Happy to share, Rei. I've been thinking for a while that I really should be adding a song a day here. Worst thing that can happen is nobody cares. :D

Chapin is a nice choice, by the way. I haven't thought about him in far too long.

Best part of the movie Looper for me was being reacquainted with this song.

^ That whole album is so good! Have to confess that I don't remember how the song figured into Looper, though. I've been considering a rewatch so I'll keep my ears at the ready.

It's in a love scene, then again at the end of the movie. I had forgotten about the song until I watched the movie awhile back. Every time I see that Looper is playing on TV it makes me think of the song, and not the movie. :)

"Jr. and His Soulettes are made up of 4 brothers and sisters.
Harold Moore, Jr., (age 10), and his sisters Vinta Marie (age 9), Denise Marshall (age 7) and Jacquein Carel (age 6).

Rumor has it that in 1971 when this record was first pressed, their dad had the bright idea to shrink wrap the vinyl at their uncle's meat packing shop.
Of the 300 or so copies pressed, only a handful survived, and rest were destroyed at the shop."

Post Re: SOTD
Had a weird little dive down the rabbit hole today when I watched Naked Lunch. Burroughs' Mugwumps made me think of the song Creeque Alley (by the Mamas and the Papas), which includes a line about an earlier group that Mama Cass and Denny Doherty were in called, naturally, the Mugwumps. This took me back to family trips listening to greatest hits albums my parents purchased from Columbia House. My parents were NOT hip, but some of that music still resonates (The Carpenters, Neil Diamound, and The M&Ps). For some reason this song came to mind today. Sorry in advance.

^ Memory Lane is a fine road to travel.

That album has the craziest opener of any M&P record:

Zany licks, eh?

Craziest jacket, too:

It's a freaky flip book that lets you mustache-ify Mama!

I picked up this odd looking record with a glued-on cover almost 20 years ago; didn't know a thing about it. After the first spin it instantly went into that stack of albums that you play for anyone and everyone that makes it far enough into your house to reach the couch.

My friend Sarah refers to it as "guitarded."

"Title track from 2nd LP " I Can Hear The Ants Dancin' " - USA underground Psychedelic Rock - originally released on cassette only in 1982 (300 copies).
    Re-released on vinyl in 1995 (1225 copies).
Further info on George and the band can be found at georgebrigman.com"

I gotta say~ there hasn't been a song you've posted that I don't like! Mandrill is classic goodness, but The Clone Defects I hadn't heard of! Digging through their stuff is already making for a sweet Sunday morning :)

One of the greatest aspects of coming up in Detroit was, believe it or not, Canadian radio! Anything that reached Windsor would also reach us, and what an incredible variety we were treated to. So many stations that were unheard of throughout most of the US, especially before that information superhighway was a thing.

One small example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQPQp6dIEG4
First heard this little biscuit in '93. Minor, sure, but I still love it.

The station what played it isn't what it once was - what is? - but you can still catch an oldie there to this day that you've never, ever heard before if you tune that AM dial to 580 and wait.

Doctor - The Five Discs

How did I make it 35 years without hearing The Associates' debut record? Thanks for the ketchup, Rei.
