Dodds daughter eluded that he raped her, or so I got from her going out speech. If that was the case then Dodd might have been saving her. Other then that he did tend to think of women as weak and ie knocking her to the bedside would be good enough as he saved some energy for Ed.

Well, things are moving fast. Still not quite sure if I understand what Hanzee is up to?
I was hoping for a Mike Milligan - Dodd showdown of some sorts (verbally at least, that could have been awesome) but there goes that.
And again no UFO references or did I miss it?

Also, if Lixx's (Lixx'? Lixxens?) theory about going backwards in time from season to season pans out, we might see The Undertaker in action in his prime next season? That would be neat.

Seems he's done with loyalty at this point, be it to a country that ignores his service to it or to his near-dead "boss" that still finds time to call him a half-breed while being saved. A haircut is a symbolic break with his own past as well as his oft-maligned and misidentified culture.

Have a look at the very first scene from this season, on the film set, for some nice foreshadowing of the above themes.

Agreed that that would have been fun, but I was happy to see Dodd come to an end because of his misogyny (underestimating Peggy) and racism (compulsively insulting Hanzee at the very worst moment). Made for a better morality play than just a cleverly written stand-off between him and Loquacious Mike.

And again no UFO references or did I miss it?
I didn't go back to have a look at how similar they were, but the bar that Hanzee visits has a full row of odd symbols prominently painted on the back wall. Worth a screen-cap.

Yeah, the Undertaker was set up as a sort-of ultimate enforcer within the organization, an all-powerful boogeyman. Milligan and Kitchen easily dispatching the man and his men helped to show their singular focus (as well as reminding me of that scene in Raiders with the scimitar vs a gun!).

Polite Fight did a nice job last week of breaking down how this was done visually:

Yes, the rise of the young Undertaker would be an interesting thread to pull on for next year. I had a lot of fun last week having a second look at season 1 and picking up on little lines and themes that they cherry-picked for constructing season 2. Even the Jaws joke was mirrored!

The show is tight so I am sure there was a reason for it but I found it odd that the Undertakers henchmen kept looking at him and each other like they were unsure what to do. It made me feel like they were the hotel lobby boys he had dragged along to work the elevator for him. And why two of the same race, size, complexion, etc? Were they trying to match Milligan's twins who always looked like they knew what was expected of them? Why not one, or three, or no henchmen at all?

^ Another something that should be pointed out about the bar scene - I noticed an amazing (and brutal) visual pun on my second watch: Wounded knees! Ha and OUCH! Poor little racist crackers.

I've decided that the most tragic event in the ep was Hanzee's clitblocking of Constance at the motel. She had the chilled wine, the lit candles... Peggy didn't stand a chance! Elizabeth Smart was just spectacular in that scene.

So, thoughts on the latest episode (The Castle)? I need to watch this one again. Another one low down on my list of favorites for this season. Mainly because we didn't get too much from the main characters. And then there's that ending. Hmmmm...

Post Re: Fargo television series
Great episode. This is definitely one I could have watched again right away. So much happened and it was shot beautifully.
Peggy is taking control - I really like her and am at a point where I want the Blumquists to make it out of there alive.

It happened too much - the death of Betsy was a little wasted (will that become Cristin Milioti's thing - wasted deaths on television? (she was the mother in HIMYM, right?) - she will become the female Sean Bean, you have heard it here first.). She played such a likable character that her death should have had a bigger impact on the audience, but with so much happening in that episode it kind of failed its purpose (on me at least).

Anyway, I cannot wait for the finale!

I kind of have a soft spot for Mike M. - he earned to make it out of there alive and become a big shot in Fargo, now that he cleared out the Gerhards (I am sure he can sell this as his doing).

Oh, and btw, I have read that the next season will not be set in the past, but after season one.
(I cannot wait to see the aging crime lords Ed and Peggy Blumquist  )

Yeah, i really like Peggy. Her character has been intriguing. Same with Mike Milligan.

That was as good as a last episode and there is still one more to go!
I'm loving the alternative versions of songs from the Big Lebowski, in fact, the soundtrack is great overall.

Its not every show you see someone get their brains blown-out directly underneath a hovering UFO :o
The cinematography in the show is top notch.

Its interesting how this season is sometimes stylistically all over the place, but it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the show.
Martin Freeman suddenly doing some narration came out of nowhere it seems . . . . i wonder if he will do it again in the finale.

I also like the split screens which they have been using gradually more creatively as the show has gone on.

For a stoic dude with virtually no facial expressions, Hanzee has been captivating to watch. I dont know why, but i'm on his side
and have been rooting for him . . . even though he's supposed to be a very bad man.

Yeah I loved that narration bit with drawings from a storybook. Hanzee is such a badass, he just doesn't give a shit anymore and has gone total rogue! He always looks sorrowful then just kills the person in cold blood. WD could use a total rogue character again (like how Shane was) instead of faux rogue like Daryl. Would at least make that show interesting again.

PS Read online that Season 3 is going back to the future so a few years after Season 1 which took place in 2006.

Surprised no one has commented on the end. A little underwhelming IMO but nice to see Hanzee and Mike Milligan's endings.

Definite foreshadowing to season 3 via Solverson's wife's dream.

Solid landing to an excellent season, methinks. I'll give it another look later today to see if I agree with myself.

Ahhh you know I never thought of that! I own Raising Arizona and didn't make that connection till you mentioned it. Completely a nod to the end of that movie. I'm kind of glad they left all the UFO stuff alone and in the background.

Only able to watch the first 15 minutes, but was surprised at the more overt Coen references (the aforementioned Raising Arizona dream sequence) as well as the No Country style shoot-out on the streets between Lou and Hanzee. Gotta watch the rest of it!
