I did like VHS 1 and 2, VHS Viral was poopoo.
Gosh, I haven't watched Henry in years. Don't know if I could stomach it anymore. That home invasion scene has left an indelible mark on my brain.
I'll wait for the Cabin Fever redux to be available for free to give it a whirl. I do like me some insane gore.

Ravenous has one of the most interesting scores I can think of in the unnatural choice of music that actually works Really well category. I haven't seen Ravenous in years, but will always remember the happy bluegrass hootenanny hoedown during the slaughter outside the cave. A Very memorable scene and the score makes up for part of that. If it was a more cliche tune for the situation, it wouldn't be as unique. Not that the scene isn't exciting on mute as well. Love that movie.

Just thought of another one that is very different from pretty much everything, but if you like weird shit you need to give it a watch, Singapore Sling. It's a really messed up Film Noir style greek movie, just totally perverse and twisted. This screen shot kind of says it all:

Watched a little '80s gem yesterday called Breeders. Really bad acting, and a man-in-rubber-suit alien, but had some decent no-budget effects. And a LOT of naked women.
Followed that up with Shivers, one of my fave Cronenberg flicks.
That Singapore Sling flick looks awesome!

EDIT: Well, crap, after all this talk about Henry I went ahead and streamed it on Amazon. Kind of disturbed myself with how well I remembered it. Even had some of the dialogue still memorized. I did have a VHS copy at one time (might still), so God knows how many times I watched it. Gotta say, if nothing else, it's low budget done right.

Own it, love it. Sometimes you just can't beat ridiculousness.

Went and saw The Witch finally. I am not going to give anything away, but if you want to see my thoughts....

Also, I know this isn't technically a horror movie though I would say it could qualify, how has no one on here mentioned Turbo Kid yet?! I know some folks will give it the hate treatment due to the 80's throw back, but it was so perfect from beginning to end.

Turbo Kid kinda missed the mark for me. I liked the effects, but, dang that girlbot was annoying!

Kind of enjoyed a trite little home invasion deal called In Their Skin. Caught it on my Shudder add-on for free. The genre isn't one of my faves, but for some reason this held my attention.

Also watched a movie called Joshua with Sam Rockwell and Vera Farmiga. Kind of reminded me of those old '70s made-for-TV horror flicks. Bad Seed type of deal. Had a lot of those New York actors who appear on all the variations of the Law & Order franchise. Again, not much to it, but it was effectively creepy.

Had to buy a cheap copy of Dawn of the Dead on DVD to satiate my craving. Haven't watched it yet, but hopefully tomorrow.

Bad Ronald been talked about on here yet? I feel like I've seen something about it somewhere recently. Your comment about made for TV 70's horror flicks reminded me of that one, which I really like.

Watched a strangely edited version of The Howling today. Hadn't watched it since the mid '80s because I always felt it was inferior to American Werewolf. Anyway, it's another one of those hard to find guys that doesn't seem to show up on any streaming services. It was on El Rey in standard def the other morning so I recorded it. Unfortunately, they show an edited version of anything they play before 9:00 PM, so the cussing was edited out (not changed, which was actually a relief), and the nude stuff was only blurred, again not removed. Of course, all the blood and guts were left in. I guess if I had to watch an edited version this wasn't so bad.

Watching Insidious 3 now, which I'm anticipating will be fairly innocuous.

I thought part 3 didn't live up to the other 2 which weren't exactly great anyway.

Saw some random horror movie called Last Girl Standing and I really liked it. Started out like the ending of an average low budget horror film then tried showing what life is like for someone who survives a horror movie scenario when all their friends are killed. The flashbacks and dealing with trauma thing while trying to live a normal life. I have never seen any movie tackle that subject before and it was oddly interesting. Then the last 20 minutes gets pretty intense. I think anyone who doesn't mind really low budget stuff that is paced pretty slow should check it out.

Been on a bit of a movie binge, saw three horror movies this past week. (yes, that's a binge for me, and yes I'm watching them in alphabetical order from my cable free On Demand list)

- Afflicted
Think a modern-day "American Werewolf in London" but with Go-Pros and vampires. Was pleasantly surprised, because the whole found-footage sort of style was actually fairly good, and the depiction of what a vampire is, is.... well, scary. No sparkles. No bats. Just scary and dangerous. The ending was satisfying and basically wrapped up the movie nicely, which is rare for a horror movie imo.

- Atticus Institute
Mockumentary film about a paranormal research facility. They basically have someone "dropped off" at their facility and they start realizing something is really wrong with this test subject, call in the help of the military, everything goes under their control, shit hits the fan. Problem is, you totally know what's happening before the film makes it completely obvious, and it pulled a Paranormal Activity with the ending. Still better than most films Hollywood shits out.

- The Abandoned
This damn movie. If you hate confusing atmospheric artsy-Euro mindfuckery, you will think this film is trash. If you love that kind of stuff, it will creep you out and leave you mulling over the plotline long after it's over. Basic summary, a woman has been hunting for any information on her birthmother all of her life and she suddenly is contacted by a notary from Russia. She not only finds out that her mother was found murdered and that's why she was adopted out, but since she is the daughter she has inherited her house. It hasn't been inhabited for 40 years, but she goes to take a look anyway. Fuckery ensues when she arrives and the driver goes wandering off, she goes after the driver, and he drives off without her... leaving her alone with the house. The plot is a crazy roller coaster and some things don't make 100% sense, but I kind of liked that.
ALSO. If you have ever played the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series of games, the musical score will give you chills. The style is so similar.

If you've seen any of them and have differing opinions, I'd love to hear them.

EDIT: Just went back a few pages and saw that you saw The Abandoned, Waterbear! I have to admit, the ending was a bit predictable and odd, but I think overall the whole atmosphere of the movie made up for it. And now I need to go watch Last Shift... as soon as you said Silent Hill vibes, I knew I had to see it.

I have never actually seen the movie you're talking about but I will look for it. The one I saw was from this year and the one you are describing is like 10 years old right? Odd that they both have the same name.



I did watch Afflicted awhile back and I enjoyed it. Very well done especially for a found footage movie. Cool effects and the story made sense which is kind of uncommon these days.

Saw The Attiicus Institute as well and it wasn't bad at all. Maybe a little depressing but creepy for sure.

Last Shift is on netflix still I think.

Ahhh, now that you mention it there were multiple movies called The Abandoned. Funny that they both got strange at the end.

I just saw Compound Fracture... Movie was frustrating to me. It had an interesting concept at the core of it, but just awful execution. I couldn't really find myself caring about any character except the main character a little bit. The antagonist was just stupid. Everything just felt like it wasn't fully realized. Just a very "meh" movie over all, I don't feel like I took anything from it.
Oh, and the name of the movie was a fucking awful play on words... Like a dad joke.

I saw that flick awhile ago. It was frustrating for me because it felt like it could have been really good but they dropped the ball so many times. Feels like a wasted concept which is so much worse then a movie that never had any potential at all.

saw that vvitch movie yesterday and it was a fun watch. Boring ending, but the ride along is well worth it. The research that went into it (i dont know how much but it says its factual) pays off in delivering a movie that is engrossing and entertaining from start to finish. You never know until the end if its a fight-club-meets-the-village-type thing or a supernatural shit show. Good fun, great cinematography and 'meh' ending.

I recommend it just for the acting, their accents and lingo is great. It took my 21st century ears a hot second to decode the thing.

I liked the Witch. It was great storytelling, but I just wanted a little more.

Has anyone seen Baskin yet? I'd been looking forward to this one and was finally able to watch it on Amazon last night. Man, it was wild, bloody, and packed with substance on themes of camaraderie, fear, judgement, damnation, etc. I found it to be a bit of an uncomfortable watch a couple times, but I'm glad I finished it because I liked it overall. Tho I do think the possibilities in what's "happening" was more interesting than what the ending decides for us. It seemed too simple an answer. Still, it wasn't a deal-breaker and some will like how it comes together with a clear, tight explanation.

I enjoyed this one more than The Conjuring, or any of the insipid Insidious films. Had more genuine scares for me, and the beginning was pretty creepy. However, the religious angle (and I'm not anti-religion) has become overly-used and tiresome.

Lights Out. Looking forward to this movie when it's release.

I really enjoyed that trailer. I like how it managed it keep the tension the film will hopefully exude. It made me want to watch It Follows again.

Yes, I watched BASKIN 2 times (so far). It's not what I was expecting, but I really enjoyed it. I'm still waiting to watch the original short.

Same here. Ha, I thought I was watching the short at first actually. But then it kept going and going, and I got pumped when I looked at the running time. I didn't know that there was a full length version, but now that I've watched it, I feel the need to see the short even more.
