There will be some planned downtime starting Wednesday, June 15th at 9am EDT. The board will be closed for approximately 12 to 24 hours while we work on migrating to a new forum software. For more information on the move, check out the Board Change Announcements thread.

Re: Board Change Announcements
I definitely like the new "ping" feature. Good to know mentions without having to remember yo look at a topic. I will miss the very simple layout of this forum though..

Re: Board Change Announcements
There doesn't seem to be much activity over on the test board, at least in terms of post experimentation. Here's the link again: http://skullbraintoys.com/forum/index.php Hopefully some of you will see fit to play around some more.
Hey James! How about restoring implementing the trademark blue and orange font action for us? I know I'd feel a lot more at home with such a visual comfort in place.
I have noticed the drop-down menu from the members list is no longer working. It's just a small thing, and might be related to the ongoing preparations for the changeover, but just giving it a mention.
Surprised there hasn't been more feedback/discussion on the new board and layout. I figured this would definitely at least garner some more attention, but maybe no one will realise it (we already know the FAQs are basically ignored by default) until they come to visit the site and find they are redirected.
If James would just implement a For Sale section there, I'm sure we'd all charge on over like crazed rhinos

Re: Board Change Announcements
Oh, there is one, it is just super-secret-invite-only.
You have to go to a secret webpage to first get the page code from the text source because it is in hidden in the same colour as the background, then go to another website to enter the secret password, after which you will be offered a chance to subscribe to a toy feed service for a nominal fee, which if you do, will enter you in to a lottery. If you happen to be lucky enough to win that lottery, the 'board members/elder ones' will take a vote on whether you are deemed worthy. If they decide that yes, you might show some promise, you will be given a probationary period, in which you must make 47 posts, including twelve "+1"s, an additional twenty-nine "PMs", and use the word "sick" in a minimum of eight of these. You must also agree to pass everything through an Instagram filter. After this, you will be admitted.
OOoops! Damn, I didn't mean to write any of that. There is absolutely no secret sales thread, Grace. Carry on.
Oh shootly wootlies! I was just about to try and follow those convoluted secret society options! Ah well, better herd the crazed rhinos back to their little play pens
p.s. your instructions almost forcast the future adoption procedures for buta, which is becoming increasingly difficult

Re: Board Change Announcements
Tried it out, meh. Does it come with a death ray? Grace, i'm hoping that you're kidding about Buta. I don't even know how to get on the list now. If it gets harder, all the flippers will have to charge more for all their hard work. Back on track: does it come with a death ray for flippers?
James hasn't said, but I assumed that the new web address was just for the test version of the forum, and that if the forum got migrated to the new software, it would use the skullbrain.org address. So we're not really "moving" it's just the software is changing. Is that right?

Re: Board Change Announcements
I honestly can't recall whether this was mentioned before or not, so apologise for any repetition, but it might be useful to expand some of the embedded tags in the new forum. I know James has already added some new features, but it may also be useful (if possible of course) to have extra capabilities for things like embedded vimeo vids for example, the way we have youtube now. I don't know if this is even possible due to what other sites/services allow, just throwing ideas out there.

Re: Board Change Announcements
When we were first playing around in there, I noticed that the YouTube embeds were all showing up as broken links. James fixed the issue promptly, the old tags work again, and he added a media button to the post menu. Click it and it claims:
You may embed media from the following sites: Dailymotion Facebook Liveleak Metacafe Vimeo YouTube
I have been having a lot of lagging problems too with the site, particularly whilst submitting posts (though my computer is also on its last legs it seems). Not sure what the issues/changes are, but the coming migration should hopefully work out some of these kinks.

Re: Board Change Announcements
Just a heads up to everyone who has checked out the new forum - There has been an update to that new forum's software that will hopefully allow me to import everything from here without all of the incredibly broken links. I need to test it before we do the full transfer, so that means that we're going to lose everything that you guys have done over there to test it out.
I'll probably be doing the test sometime in the next few days, and I'll give a heads up here before I do it. Thanks for helping with the testing!
Nice James, thanks for keeping up all the work on this. I think most of us assumed anyhow that anything done over there would be 'wiped' in the transfer of the current board over to that one, as we were just playing around and testing it out, so no worries there.

Re: Board Change Announcements
Yep, same address. Board will go down for about 12 to 24 hours to do the switchover, and I'll give plenty of notice of when it's going down.
The new board has been re-imported with the new import function. Links to posts and threads are still broken, and will be until we do the full switch, but other links that were completely broken before should be fixed. For example, David's Flickr link in this post: http://skullbraintoys.com/forum/index.p ... ost-889120
Go poke around again! Some permissions and things might be broken again because I haven't gone in to fix them after this import, so let me know if you can't do something you should be able to, or if you can do something you shouldn't be able to.

^ I take it this includes avatars? I had used gravatar put my avatar on the new site and now it's saying I don't have permission to reload it and the question mark is now there instead.
