Post Longshot question for Music fans: The Mountain Goats?
I know its a long shot, but does anyone else listen to this band? Possibly even over toys, they're my biggest obsession of the last 10 years.

I Just checked my ipod & there are a staggering 901 Mountain Goats songs on there..am I alone here in this? :) (i'm thinking yes, but it can't hurt to ask)

I've listened to them but I can't say I'm a fan. I don't DISLIKE them either, there's a few songs I like but I never got into them. I work part time at a record store so that's where I would've heard anything, just from what someone in the store played. I also think "Atom and his Package" did some covers of their tunes too, right?>\

indeed. Atom did a 7" called "Going to Ames: A tribute to the mountain goats". Funny story: I used to live with this dude Steve who ran a recording studio out of our house. He usually did punk bands and also occassionally some indie stuff. On the last day that i was moving my stuff out of the house, I knocked on his door to say goodbye, and he didn't come out, so I banged on it again. I was hitting it pretty hard, and eventually the door opened and it wasn't steve. Atom poked his head out and looked a little confused/annoyed. I totally interrupted his recording. hahaha.

:) I haven't picked up the new tMG record yet (I'm slacking!) but I have pretty much everything else officially released including demos & weird comp stuff, along with maybe 40 or so live shows? (possibly more?).

John D is the master of the angry post-relationship song.

No Children is one of many that have gotten me through the last 10 years of bad breakups. Some lyrical favorites are below:

standard bitter love song #4

well I see you've left me a photograph
of a leopard tearing an antelope in half.
what have you done? what have you done?
what have you done...with our love?
what have you done?

well I see you've resorted to petty theft.
you try to take something from me,
but there's nothing left.
what have you done? what have you done?
what have done...with our love?
where have you put it?

well I hear you calling from way over there
and I can't find it anywhere.
what have you done? what have you done?
what have you done...with our love?
what have you done?

black molly

black mollies in the aquarium,
darting back and forth as though an earthquake were certain
and I, turned up the heater
and I ripped off my shirt
and I grabbed hold of my stereo
and I threw it out the window
you were in town again
you'd come around again
you were dragging me down again with you

siamese fish flashing like sparklers
it started to rain
and the telephone rang a couple of times
I put a bullet through its cold dead brain
and I got out my photographs of you
and I put bullets though all of them too
you were in town again
you'd come around again
you were dragging me down again with you
yeah

baboon

------
the sun came up above the strange white plain.
blood red flowers all wet with rain
and the spirit wasn't really willing anymore, but the flesh was very very strong.
and i've got very little money left, and i've got no sense,
but I'll have none of your god damned impudence.
the sun came up above the new white fields,
everything was new again.
pure power, stripped of meaning, sky burning, spring cleaning.

daisies on the hillside like cancer on the skin.
pretty little yellow eyes that flutter in the wind,
I'd be grateful my children aren't here here to see this,
if you'd ever seen fit to give me children.
and my defenses may be working with a skeleton crew,
but I'll be skinned alive before I'll take this from you.
the sun came up above the ocean out west,
all the colors of the rainbow.

stand up straight, you can see the house leaning.
day breaking, spring cleaning.

poltergeist

i can't stand it when you tell our infant son
that he was born beneath a bad sign.
and i can't stand it when smiles up at you
just because you're his mother.
and i can't stand the bitter thing that i've become
beneath the four walls that hold up our ceiling.
and i wonder when the house gets real quiet
who between us will be the first one to give into the feeling.
and i know you don't want me to hurt you tonight.
and i, i don't want you to hurt me the way you do.

i can't stand it when you put the boy to bed and ya
sing him those songs i used to sing to you.
yeah i can't stand to hear you sing those songs
when you know you don't mean them.
and i can't stand the way my body still remembers
how much we used to mean to one another way back when.
and i can't stand going back to seek the shelter of your arms.
and then i can't stand it again.
and i know you don't want me to hurt you tonight.
and i, i don't want you to hurt me the way you do.

In fact, for about 4 years, i've been thinking about getting this present as a tattoo: but i can't decide where to put it.

And whether I should try to get it in that green color, or just an outline. thoughts?
