The Dcon kumon is hands down one of the best releases ever. I don't know how to screen shot from instagram but that blue rules.
Agreed Bryce, that one is up there with the best of them without a doubt. @vinyl.zealot beautiful giant one off. Here is the one off giant I picked up two weekends ago at our local Kaijucult show. Glow vinyl View this post on Instagram View this post on Instagram
Incredible Lee! That is just fantastic. You could not have picked better for a one-off. I loathe you. The giant is really a fantastic sculpt and I can give Dennis enough props for the skill of its execution. The appearance of simplicity demonstrates the mastery of it; 'new' soft vinyl sculptors should take not of this, rather than..... whatever it is they are using for their inspirations.
Agreed-less is often more. I liken his paint jobs to the guitar playing of one of my favorite musicians, John Fahey. To the uninitiated, Fahey’s style is deceptively simple, but it is something much harder to master than your garden variety flashy guitar techniques.
Dude channels his inner 60 year old oba-chan working in the Bullmark factory for pennies apiece. I believe 'pshhh, pshhh, pshhh and out the door' was the technical term he used when describing the subtle intricacies of paint application! FACT!
@Michael Beverage Thanks man, same goes for yours! How's the glow on this big boy? Does it have the "ShirahamaToy doesn't care for your retinas" type of glow? I don't even store batteries or flashlights for the zombie apocalypse, only glow Kumons now
It’s pretty damn bright. Maybe not as bright as the blanks he released a while ago, I think the glow vinyl is different if memory serves, but I need to go back and compare.
^^ both get two thumbs up from me, never seen them before, they are pretty cool. If they look that good unpainted . . . .
@The Moog - Unpainted flesh set were offer for sale yesterday for only 1,200 yen + SAL shipping. My total was only 1,600 yen to the US. Fun Fun Fun sofubi for a good cheap price!!!
Always a pleasure seeing you man! I scored a black/white marble set from the show, just waiting for them in the mail!!
Ouch! Where was I yesterday? Goshdangit, that is a heck of a great buy, full props to you for being on the ball man. I was even on the blog yesterday, but didn't think about checking the shop out. I am really loving the gachas that artists have been doing lately; it is a trend I can fully get behind, especially when they are so wonderfully done like those by Dennis. Big numbers, blanks, affordably distributed to all the fans - it is basically the sofubi dream come true (or at least what everyone has always been crying for). If this is a model that ends up working for factories and makers, and it sort of seems to be as the popularity increases (I am guessing you can pull a good number at once, and obvs save costs in painting and shipping), then I fully embrace it. Anyhow, bummed that I missed out on such an opportunity, but congrats Anthony, that is such a nice set. And of course, thank you Dennis for making this all possible.
