Digging a little deeper into my playlist and rediscovered this gem of a tune. These guys shred. All I see are just a ton of people skating vert and eating EZ-Cheez.
This! Just kidding, but what an album cover, eh? So many questions. I have, however, played this cassette commissioned for a department store several times: Watering a flower Haruomi Hosono 1984 cassette (花に水)
reliving my highschool days. Had the Pillows and Dir En Grey on repeat constantly on top of spatterings of Dimmu Borgir and AFI.
Silver Jews - now there's a band I hadn't thought about in decades! Every year or so - sometimes a couple times I year - I find myself going back to some gangsta rap classics. The past few years I've been going back to DJ Quik, and listening to albums he put out after his first two which were the only ones I heard before my tastes moved in another direction. But he continued to put out some great albums, and produced a lot of albums for other rappers. Which recently lead me to check out Suga Free - the pimp from Pomona!
Just got back from Psycho Las Vegas. 3rd year attending and definitely the most fun fest I've been to. Some of the standouts for me this year: Amenra was probably one of the most emotional live shows I have ever been to and were definitely the sleeper hit of the show. And HOLY FUCK was it loud Twin Temple is a Satanic doo wop band (yes, that's a real thing) from LA. Seen them before and they put on a brilliant show. They really blend the art and message of Satanism perfectly, and man does she have a voice Devil Master is what season 6 of Stranger Things will be if Will discovers corpse paint Dixie (Weedeater) is what you get when you mix Les Claypool with Dale from King of the Hill. This man is a southern treasure I could go on and on, but if you really dig any of these types of bands you should definitely consider attending
Lately, lots of a 90's band from San Francisco called Swell. I've been so busy but recently found time to get back on fulfilling my Swell collection. Recorded media, Posters, original prints, oddities, stories from the band members and surprisingly stories from people who crossed paths with them at one time or another. They were pretty original and I always thought they stood apart during the storm of grunge, britpop, and Shoegaze of the time and more akin to something you would hear on Flying Nun records out of New Zealand. Thought the drummer was great too. Every time I went to SF they were on tour in Europe (No way to know without internet!) , but I did manage to catch them at the notorious Dragonfly in Hollywood. I wish they would reunite.
I was big on them at the time, too, but I haven't thought of them in years. Good call on the Kiwi pop comparison. Funny you should mention that, too, as this was my wake-up album today: The Clean - Vehicle
Yes! Love the Clean. Need to catch some more of their stuff. I was really into Tall Dwarfs and Chris Knox in the 90's as well. Such a damn shame about Chris Knox having a stroke. He's such a very cool dude. I'll never forget sharing shots of some seriously crazy Mezcal outside one of his shows, whereas he replied after the shot "That's soooo smooooouuuuuth...." Too much yummy packed on one label. Bats! JPSE!
So I'm getting ready to go see Big|Brave, and checking out their tourmates - Deaf Kids: https://deafkidspunx.bandcamp.com/album/metaprograma-o Reading about the recording a familiar name popped up - James Plotkin! Are you still around here? I can't remember your SB name, or I'd tag ya.
Nice one! Gonna have to check this out today while at work.. Here’s a link to the set on SoundCloud : https://soundcloud.com/platform/bukezfinest
