I swear I'm starting to see people walking around in groups playing this on their phones outside. I try and shoulder surf to see a Pokemon or something but no luck to date. Undecided on how I feel about this as some people will be playing it while driving or walking into traffic. But I do think it's an interesting alternative to gaming and gets people outside and active versus sitting on a couch.
Went on a lovely hike yesterday, and there were lots more people hiking than usual, which was interesting. Most appeared to spend their entire hike staring at their phone. Call me a Luddite, but...
Local news said the parents of a child who was hit by a car while playing pokemon go are already suing nintendo. As though it's someone else's fault they gave their kid a cell phone and let them run into traffic.
was at the park around midnight and so were like 20+ people. everyone was chill and telling us where to find certain pokemon in the park!
Went on my first legit hunt yesterday evening. Dude I was with hands down would have been hit by a car had I not been there to warn him. Stepped straight into traffic two different times.
I've been 'playing' it the past week. It's okay I guess. I do like that it's just the original 151. All these new ones don't mean anything to me and I think the nostalgic factor of it is why it's been so popular. However all the gyms nearby are filled with +1000CP pokemon and the best I have done so far is a Golbat at CP463. So frankly I can't compete at gyms or stand a chance at holding one.. and unless I grind like crazy or pay to win, there's no way I can catch up. Trading with friends would increase the longevity of the 'game' but I'll probably get bored of it in a week or so.. especially if they don't get larger servers and fix all the bugs.. but having said that I've already 'caught them all' back in 1999 on the Gameboy.. so there's nothing new here that I haven't seen yet.. you know apart from PHYSICALLY walking around to catch them. As for people walking into traffic, I find that so ridiculous, and people that do, have no one else to blame but themselves. It's no worse than walking around with your headphones in or just using your phone while your walking like people do anyway. The game warns you when you start it up to be aware of your surroundings. I don't even play with the AR on so constantly looking at your phone isn't needed. I am loving all the memes and jokes coming out about it though.
Ran into about 8 people outside of a church yesterday evening. Everyone was trying to topple the Red gym that was there and hit up the 3 pokestops. Really nice folks. Unfortunately we ran out of pokeballs later on and a Golduck appeared. :'(
So...how many are playing just to collect and don't really care about taking over gyms? Also...Magikarp is funny. 400 candies to evolve!
@gatchabert I've been playing this way so far but mostly because the gyms nearby have players who's CP is 1k+. Leads to me believe they are paying their way up as the game hasn't been out very long yet... My highest CP is 500 so not sure if I'd stand a chance!
Yeah for now but they have hinted at updates coming soon to change some of that. Hopefully the lack of dueling will be first on the list.
Bummed. There was a Magikarp nearby in my neighborhood, but my family is asleep and my 2 year old has a croupy cough and I need to stay inside in case I need to go in and get her, so I can't go out and hunt it down.
The glitching needs to stop for sure. Had an aerodactyl in my sights. My pokeball had a glow around it which was weird and it curved for some reason. Then the game spun and shut down. It was the first and only time I'd seen an Aerodactyl. I need all the dinosaur pokemons!!
That's why I'm not playing either but lots of the new content they plan to add looks really neat. It's pulled in over $8,000,000,000 dollars already so we can expect amazing stuff added to it soon.
