Figured this might be a little bit of fun and bring some interesting discussion to the boards.. What do you see happening in our little scene this year? Your hopes, desires or even worst nightmares.. Who knows which makers read this board, it might give them some ideas? - Gargamel mentioned 2019 will be the start of a new chapter in their career.. tin toys maybe? More book publishing? Possibly a return to having a retail/gallery space? - I think this year is the 15th Anniversay of RxH Chaos - would be insanely amazing to see a blank mixed parts lucky bag from Mori. Random assortments of arms and heads in a mix of colours - with international orders available. Is that asking too much being blank and un-assembled, it would be fairly pain-free to organise something like this a special release. - Fairly good chance we see the Hedorah Trike released through M1Go - More monograph books produced by makers - I think I saw on instagram that MVH was going through old photo archives with a book in mind?
Looking forward to Grody Shogun getting his own factory going with his own metal molding/jointing included. If anyone can help get people selling and buying reasonably priced toys again it's him and lulubell. Also happy to see mid and micro toys making a big comeback. Giant toys were fun for awhile but stuff got so expensive. Feels like 2018 was the year of window shopping for this hobby. Look but don't touch.
Cool, thanks Glenn. I wasn't at either of those Festivals, and don't think I ever saw that flyer, but that is pretty cool news. There have been some other recent trike releases which have been surprisingly very quiet.
This is the 15th anniversary of Mutant Head (and the Mutant Zone figures). Chaos didn't come along until 2005. That said, it gives you pause to think that some of the original vinyls are entering 'vintage' territory. For perspective, we are now as far from the debut of the original RxH figures as we were in the year 2000 from the debut of the original Transformers toys.
I expect more ridiculously priced, insensitive and hateful Hitler-based toys. Okay, okay, something positive... I hope that we see some more Jetture sculpts, or the return of the full-sized Horumora.
I predict that KR is going to try to cash in on “the super hot trend of Kaiju, the new sensation in toy collecting..” Actually, the exact quote they use is “Kaiju and Neo-Kaiju is one of the hottest trends in vinyl toys right now! Coming from Japan, and taking over Western collections, these strange beasts – sometimes cute, sometimes ugly – call upon the golden age of toy collecting!”
When Kozik took over he specifically mentioned how he would like to do some soft vinyl releases. The new "Kaiju Battle" mini series was leaked a few months ago and Clutter just officially announced it today. Seems like Clutter may have coordinated the effort. Like many others, I started out collecting KR so I'm interested to see the toys themselves and I'm happy for everyone involved...and I'll be at the release party too!
Hopes: everyone moves on to something else and actual fans of toys can buy things at normal prices again. Flippers get ousted or stuck with toys no one wants for inflated prices. Gargamel moves back to regular releases instead of LB's and shows only. RxH reconnects with Lulubell for American releases. Fears: the scene continues it's hype inflation, with certain makers commanding thousands per release as braindead fans blindly praise every release without any critical though. Non-hyped toy makers shut down. Sellers cannot sell non-hyped toys and are stuck with toys forever, becoming jaded and leaving the scene to the soul-sucking hype-leeches. Hitler and fascist toys become all the rage, with war victim omakes.
Well first month not even through and we have another Trump sculpt. At least Japanese vinyl isn't being wasted on these fucking toys - looks like they are mostly all produced in China so far. This one will be produced by PLT it looks like. View this post on Instagram
Some more predictions/hopes... - Medicom releases Series 1 of either/both 100% Nyabrick/Rabbrick blindboxes (it's gotta happen at some point right??) - Butanohana produces a middle-sized Hedorah - More toys get produced in this crazy new GID flake glitter vinyl.. which I'm guessing is only really effective in clear vinyls. GID glitter mixed with an opaque vinyl colour might still look kind of cool in the dark though. - Super7 up the frequency of their sofubi releases again - you hear me out there @brianflynn - Ummikko kills 2019 and gets the train moving full steam with many releases and some of those new sculpts
I predict Skullbrain will keep on being awesome I also predict, that because of rising prices, my Sofubi buying will stay at a slow crawl for the next year at least. But to be honest, now my collection has become more static and I'm not chasing new scores constantly, It's made me appreciate what i already have on my shelves even more. I have chosen well, and still love it all.
Toothaction will sell off his entire buta collection, and buy a villa in Dubai https://www.luxhabitat.ae/the-journal/top-10-most-luxurious-villas-world/
Would love to see some Buta mid to standard size! I predict at least one new standard Mecha sculpt from Gargamel More stupid expensive toys from China with and without cock&balls Bwana Spoons making the world a better place every day of 2019 and beyond Me canceling my Mandarake account and rejoining within a week at least twice
If Secret Base and Ggml revived their classics, I'd lose my goddamn mind. Chicken Fever would be another I'd love to see make a comeback. As far as what I'd like: for my favorite artists to continue on the path they're currently on of amazing and affordable creations. For me to continue finding the undesired and unwanted to the masses for hella inexpensive prices. For Headlock Studio to stay on the recognition he and the artists he works with deserve. For Obake Dogs to make a comeback. For BxH to release more Demeru Kun. NIghtmares: For everything that irritates the fuck out of me about the current state of toys to remain where they're at today. Too much hype beasting, toys being status symbols, people collecting for the sake of impressing others, uninspired, derivative "designs" being pumped out at a massively over saturated rate, prices climbing higher and higher, kiss asses begging for lottos wins or notiriety.
id love for the classics to come back but im super down for new designs. i think a lot of artists are taking some risks this year as far as design goes and its super refreshing and exciting!
I dunno Andy.... There is no gargamel, RxH and his gang, zollmen, etc these days at SF, WF. Even at Gargamel show in Japan, each person can get only one. At DCon, if u attend everyday, u get a shot at multiples. Hence I am very keen to attend DCon instead.
