I watched the 30 second teaser earlier today and I’m so excited. It looks terrifyingly crushing. Like he’s back to being a destructor, as opposed to a savior!
Got my tickets for the end of this month - decided to go all out and see it in 4DX so I can feel lizard breath on my neck
Saw it last night and thought it was fantastic. Might just be recency bias, but I think I might even prefer it to Shin Godzilla.
Not a parent, but it seems ill advised. It's very grim, not only in the scope of destruction and death, but also in the degree to which it's willing to grapple with the profound despair and trauma that survivors are left to contend with.
It's funny, you say this, I'm in the same dilemma. My 5.5 year-old is obsessed with Godzilla and the monsterverse. He has seen a bunch of the older movies as well. I watched the trailers to the new one with him and quite honestly I think this one looks a bit too scary. In addition, the fact that it's all in Japanese with English subtitles and he can't read yet will make sitting through a two hour movie very difficult.
I will get my thoughts together when I get the chance but I am not judging it as a Godzilla movie, or even a genre movie, it just isn't good storytelling. There is a bad turn in the final act, and then worse things in the finale, and the acting overall is ridiculous. I planned on seeing this twice, now I am not. I really don't want to sit through it again. Based on the reactions online, it seems like if you hated Shin Godzilla, you will probably love this one. No value judgements, just the trend I am seeing.
Oh yeah, for those of you wondering about bringing your kids, depending on their age I would reconsider taking them to this. The scenes are mostly bloodless but there are multiple times where people are getting chomped and stomped and killed in nuclear blasts right in front of you. I feel like if I saw this when I was younger than 11 or so, it would have given me nightmares.
Went with my 11-year old last night and we both LOVED it. Totally enjoyed. So glad we got out to see it on the big screen, almost didn’t happen.
Watched it for the second time yesterday and enjoyed it even more. Loved how dramatic every character was in most situations. Personally still love Shin more but Minus One is definitely worth watching.
