Here's some more junkers from the 'ol twitter feed for y'all to sneer at! I think this method could make for a great centipede, or hexipede as might be more realistic. You could just fit another cone of flash in the opposite direction at the end for "closure."
I think there's a reason the flash goes into the garbage... I'd gladly take the glitter head and black head put together for a nice rattle
it's like buying an artists dry paint chips after hes done painting a masterpiece. I can't get into this one,
I think it's interesting but not into them enough to buy. It seems cool that Luke's trying to find something useful to do with flash. I always loved seeing uncut toys. I think maybe just selling a full figure (body, 2 arms, head) uncut would do better though. Or chopping the flash up as "inserts" on a clear figure. It can't be remelted somehow?
I personally am not the biggest fan of the flash monsters, but they are interesting. However, I do appreciate what Luke is attempting to do with repurposing the flash material. What I would love to see is the flash shredded and put inside of clear grody monsters. Or.. I would love to buy a couple (or more) of these flash monsters with extra flash, so that I can make a rattle (or more) and shedd the flash myself to put inside of a clear grody (if they will be ever made), our at least inside of another clear sofubi that I have.
I was wondering this myself, but I figured that if it were possible and cost effective, they probably would have done this already?.. Not sure though..
Unless you want to destroy a shredder, doing this by hand takes forever and is a HUGE pain in the ass. I attempted to do this like RxH has done and gave up quick. Maybe at some point I will revisit it but not for awhile. As for remelting, its not possible. The vinyl becomes something completely different once it becomes a solid.
Have you tried warming up the flashing first?? I imagine warmed vinyl is 10x easier to cut through...
I believe the damage to the earth if everyone started doing that would be higher, than the amount of damage from extra flash building up (although our oceans are filling up with the stuff like crazy). Chemically reheating vinyl is way more toxic, than doing it in the first place, and I would think the texture of the end product would be horrid.
I meant heating with a hairdryer... That doesn't effect the texture...it only softens it...which I think would make cutting it so much easier....
But will it blend? Once the vinyl plasticizes it's pretty much stuck as vinyl forever. You could definitely develop some kind of process to heat it and run it through a shredder but it would probably be easier in the long run to just buy a chipper/shredder rated to rip through rigid plastics. I had always thought about chipping up a bunch of flash, mixing it with transparent resin, and then using it for like mutated/rejected toys. That seems like a lot of work though. I vaguely recall seeing a kind of...DIY monster kit. It was basically a bag that came with all the parts necessary to make the toy but you had to cut the flash, assemble and then paint the toy yourself. It might be cool if Luke looked into something like that. If anyone could pull it off he's the man to make it happen.
Oh I see what your saying Jeb, but to be honest, I just read a pretty chilling story, about people making the Honeybuns, vinyl doll kits, and I think phthalates are released when vinyl is warmed up at any temperatures. Here's a link to the story. http://www.hunnybunsrebornsupply.com/_h ... _sullivan_
pthalates have been pretty heavily discussed here before. Vinyl and other plastics, paint etc. off-gas all the time no matter what the temp so gotta deal with it or make your house out of some organic shit and dont go outside and dont collect. I just try and forget about them but the topic keeps coming back up.
flash monsters seem odd, and if one was tossed in my order for free I wouldn't mind. But I'd actually like a glitter or really any color head with the flash attached. They just look so cool by themselves
Ok, um, I thought Luke was just messing around when I saw this on his instagram feed... Selling these seems a bit strange... I've enjoyed everything that I've seen come out of the fort - up until now... It'd be cool instead to see some colored clear Ojisans or Monsters. Rainy day?
Not too into these flash dudes, but who really knows what he's got planned for them. I like this idea: chop the flash up, stick it in a clear figure, call it a day.
It's kind of like Luke's mashups. They looked weird and just a fun little side project but once painted many actually looked really nice. Can't say this will happen for the flash monster but it may look better painted. Eitherways, I also like the flash-in-clear-monster idea.
So if he cuts off some of the excess vinyl and puts it inside a clear Monster's face, would that be a flash in the pan?
