Did I dream I saw some Grody Shogun ojisans at the DKE table at SDCC? Does this mean they will eventually be distributed to retailers?
I believe that was just where Lulu was set up --- the 'lil yokais were for display only, I was told. That said, who knows? Grody thought: Like the rest of you, I'm really digging all of these mash ups. When the dust settles, though, I think it would be super great to be able to pick up a full set of monsters, painted and in the "correct" order. I've loved the Universal crew my whole life, but I haven't had any interest in having toys of them since I was very young. Til now, that is! Luke's toys make me feel like I'm a kid, and that's something pretty special.
Luke (Grody Shogun) lives, works, designs, produces, packages, and sells these in Japan. Up until this point, the figures have been sold overseas through his other outfit: Lulubell.
So now that they're sold out (perhaps oversold according to twitter) I love the Monster Gool. Great, weird look/feel combining 2 cool dude's stuff. Blah blah blah, repetitive praise, HYPEZ!
How was the PK/GS mash-up announced? First I heard of it was in a PM a few minutes ago. Is this what I get for ignoring Twitter all these years? Pretty.
announced on kaiju chronicle & toy bot studios... the only sources you need for sofubi news that was fun... but wait, oversold, wha!?! found 3 of them pretty quick... but not the one i was after from the preview shot. once i got him, i paused to get greedy to decide on a 2nd figure but changed my mind and only went with my 1st choice.. hope i got him.
So I "get" the vampire, wolfman, frankenstein and mummy heads but what are the other 2? The one pictured above by dustbin (is it a zombie?) and the rocky-frankenstein one? If this has been discussed I totally missed it. A creature would be cool too!
I don't know, I initially thought that that guy (the stripey-faced one) was the mummy, and those were his 'bandages' but I could be wrong. The rock head guy I think could be a Golem, while the remaining big forehead dude could definitely be some kind of zombie. I really like this latter guy, especially his lips. If not though, could easily be a myriad of other possibilites. You can see some large hi-res images here, to make your guess: http://www.jeremyriad.com/blog/toy-talk/vinyl/grody-shoguns-monster-of-a-debut/
I really dig Lulu's scavenger hunt type sales. Really brings the adrenaline and thrill of the hunt in a quick burst of toy mania. Yaarrrrg!!
Golem makes sense. I felt the big head with lines across it (also could be bandages) was the mummy because it was fully wrapped (the smaller headed version still has hair) and because Karloff was both Frankenstein's monster and the Mummy and they both have the same base sculpt. The "zombie" was just a guess, maybe those are wrinkles from rotting? I dunno, they're all awesome anyway.
I think that the one pictured by dustbin is the Invisible Man. So: Vampire Werewolf Invisible Man Frankenstein's Monster Mummy Golem
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH SHIT I didn't even THINK of the Invisible Man, awesome, I can totally see it!
Original content rules. But I also dig the news aggregating that Kaiju Chronicle does. There is room in the tent. Much love. Luke`s Twitter + Lulubell`s Facebook are the "primary source" for most Grody news. KC is great for aggregationizing. And that new mashup is balls out. Way way out. And I am one nomihodai beyond sobriety. Censorship and thought control are puke. Collect what you love. Screw anyone who tries to tell you otherwise.
2 right greens were my favorite, I like the somber looking heads on these guys. They look sad they're freaks of nature.
i dig all subtle variances that luke's editions have, giving each figure it's own personality.... this release was no exception. so if you didn't do the hunt last night & wanted to see the flocks together... here they are with the numbers that lulu gave them. GS MG 1 GS MG 2 GS MG 3 GS MG 4 GS MG 5 GS MG 6
I can't believe I missed this. When I first read about it, I even wrote myself a note with the date and time of the hunt on it and stuck it to my monitor. I'm even more bummed after seeing the additonal pics of the toys. Haha.
^^ here i thought i was being helpful... turns out i'm just a jerk rubbing it in and for my 2 cents.... i dig all the classic monster references & i think you guys are onto something with this list... yet i keep thinking of these guys as 2 different monsters that are in various stages of transformation.
It wouldn't surprise me if Luke started with two heads, and made extra wax casts, which he sculpted into to create the other 4, much like the Ojisan and Karakuri
