I'm with Bill on this one - I can't seem to find my Ultraman Joe from the same period ( ) but it looks to me like my Ultraman King (roughly the same size) scales just about the same way as the toys in the pic from the festival.
Geez, don't you guys have any hopeful imaginations? Way to rain all over my festivities. I was thinking he actually has quite a Sunguts feel, but I did some preliminary searching and didn't find any releases I hadn't seen before. Whatever he is, I really like him; and will of course welcome him into my loving family from anyone with him stashed away.
Great set of photos Dennis They make me happy and sad at the same time. There's some treasure in there - haar haaarrrr!
i think it might be banpresto. probably difficult to track down but shouldn't be pricey. as painful as it is to see the then-~$20 tags on these toys, it's not nearly as bad as the bullmark guys have it when photos from that era (with price tags intact) pop up
The funny part is my wife always saying, "hey baka, you should buy those, theyre fucking awesome!" whenever we walked by the Buta booth. Then she proceeded to buy the Oodako to prove how dumb I am. To redeem myself I bought the Gamakujira and a few others.
High five to your wife! At least you came away with some of the goodies, it is much more to be facing the regret of having passed over something completely. I will attest firsthand how hard it is to maintain complete coverage at a mindblowing event like SuperFest when there is just so much crying for your attention. The money only stretches so far, and it is a bit wrenching to have to choose one priority over another.
It looks like he is re-enacting the picture in the background. Id bet that is a mini Bullmark, it sure looks like it and I have never seen any Buta figures that size.
Yeah you are right. Still haven't been able to identify the mystery guest though. What type of Bullmark were you thinking? The Bandai mini reissues are the closest that come to mind but had the typical BM style bent arms, and I can't think of others right now this size. I really like that he has the squat Popy style, but is also articulated at the arms.
It's vintage, Bullmark I assume. Here is a pic from the B-Club special book I found online. Look in the front row to the right of the all grey and all red Bullmark Ultraman minis: Mystery over!
Not sure if I should thank you or not now (kidding of course), since now I know it is another vintage toy I need to track down. And by that I mean need. Thanks for the detective work Lixx!
Thing is about all those vintage Bullmark Ultra minis, there are a ton of them! I myself have been trying to track down as many as I can lay my hands on and with every Ultra character there just seems to be more and more of them. Mark Nagata or some of the vintage guys would know more about just how many of them are out there. I nabbed this cheapie on e-slay today: Bullmark does have more articulated arm minis (well bent) I should have this guy and the same mold in Zoffy in a few weeks:
Maybe my childhood was warped by too much Bowie, but does anyone else find it looks like he is packing some serious action (and I don't mean the specium rays)? Could be the lighting, but I almost hope it isn't. EDIT: Great score Lixx, that one is really nice too. Didn't even see it over there, but I am not hunting those grounds these days. I agree, the more minis the merrier for me, I cannot have enough.
Aha! That's the exact toy of mine I was looking for earlier... that I seem to have misplaced! When I found him (in a Value Village thrift store of all places!) I thought I'd scored an ultra, but the carved in lines around the stripes made me think he was a Joe. Now I'm uncertain. Again.
Back to Buta, I'd like to throw out another thanks Dennis for sharing those pics. Very cool to see, even though I am crying a little. Of course, I do that every time I see a pic of a Buta Jirass! Man, those tables would take care of about 1/3rd of my Buta wants list. That pile of Alien Zarabs is great to see too.
At the risk of hype - The reality has crushed my expectations. His best work yet? Must find this beauty for my home. Thanks for the rear-view, Choon.
I have to imagine that whenever he takes on Dada that the stripes will be sculpted into the body - let alone my hope that he does the 3-face trick - but I'm also not sure yet what to guess as to who's in that teaser. Are those little stubby arms we can see in the shadow? Is he smooth and rounded at the bottom like the sheet of a ghost or is that the joint of the waist? So many questions... stumped!
no one's got a clue? the collective imaginations and sleuthing of the sb buta crew is coming up empty handed?
