Good stuff John, glad to hear it. Where are you headed (you have to let us all know so we can s̶t̶a̶l̶k̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ give some recommendations. Enjoy the trip!
Quebec City and Montreal this (first) time around. I was hoping for the oil sands of Alberta, but the wife wanted to see castles and churches...
Hahaha, that's what I was thinking. Hope you are setting her up for some realistic expectations, John. While me might have 'Royal' in the name, we generally only use one form of cutlery, and then typically only in situations out of necessity, e.g.
Related, this might be helpful to embrace the culture .... or not at all. [For anyone who doesn't realise it, this is absolutely satire. Vive le Québec! ]
ha ha, I think your wife made a good choice. (sorry Alberta) If your a beer guy, Quebec has a load of world class breweries. Most European/Belgian style. When are you there? If your an electronic music guy try to make it past Mutek. Another Canadian adventure that I love is heading into the whiteshell. Great hiking, lakes, interesting prehistoric petroform sites, black flies, mosquito... anyway, I love it!
We'll be out that way at the end of July, into Aug. Only about a week or so. Hopefully enough time to see both QC and Montreal. You know, in case Trump wins and all. We'll need a safe haven for at least four years.
Nice! Be sure to check out the extensive list of goings-on in Montreal, for those evenings or when you get tired of doing the tourist thing. http://www.tourisme-montreal.org/What-To-Do/Events
^^^^^ Thank you sir. Will use that link. @nefasth - Is that restaurant "the place" for poutine? I have no basis for comparison. I've not bothered to order here in SoCal. But I haven't seen it on any of the restaurant menus that I frequent. I tend to steer clear of hipster businesses.
Yes, I think that you will find it is a regular staple in the city, with all kinds of choices, varying the gamut from greasy (but delicious) spoon, to extreme high-end cuisine, with everything in between. Your best bet, before making any definite judgement, might be to try a few different variations and places and see what tickles your fancy.
Rad. Thanks people. Much appreciated. What about top 5 or even top 10 places I must see/visit while there? Even tourist spots are welcomed. We have plans of course, but always interested in what the actual residents suggest over tourist sites, books, etc...
@666doll I'm sure Steve could whip you up a quick map for a walking tour of all of his old apartments.
Haha, well if you are looking for places in the city not to visit, well then, I probably am the dude to ask. >_>
@side.g too late, I bought my plane ticket! I'm heading to a music festival for us gothy/noisy types.
Ma poule Mouillée facing La Banquise is where you wanna go. Portuguese with a great (huuuge) poutine. Banquise is ok but kind of a trap. This video was shot there ..
We are now in Quebec City. Montreal is a great city. My fave part was the surfing the St. Lawrence. I was bummed to not have brought my fins... I never ordered poutine, but kid did. We landed at a place called Universal Cafe. She ordered breakfast poutine and it was damn tasty. Matter of fact, all the food was great and reasonably priced.
when I was in Toronto there was a fast food chain that had a young looking David Letterman on the sign.... what is the name of that place? if it helps -they sell poutine (i don't know for sure since i didn't go) and the colors where red and yellow anyone???
