So I’m sure everyone in the United States knows by now that the US post office is experiencing unprecedented (I hate that world now, btw) amounts of mail and packages this holiday season and as result everything is delayed. I’m not ranting, as much as I know misery loves company... I’ve got 6 confirmed “delayed” packages, almost half of which haven’t moved in 9 days. And two that should also be in the mail, but I don’t have tracking numbers to disappoint me. - so I’m curious: how many packages are you waiting on that are just trapped in postal limbo?
I have a package that’s coming on the 21st, I really hope it isn’t delayed. It’s my sister’s Christmas gift. Really late, I know, but I kept assuring myself that I’d figure out what to get her. Eventually had to go beg my mom to help me find a suitable gift for her... It’s so difficult shopping for people who can afford everything themselves.
I have four. Ironically my two recent DHL packages from Japan reached me in just two days. Of course that's more of a case of you get what you pay for. $$$$$$$
True, but they’re saying even priority mail is running 1-2 weeks behind now. I don’t really expect any of my packages to show up until after January 1 now. It’s a shame because there are some Christmas gifts for my wife among those 6-7 packages I’m waiting on. What can you do.
Thankfully my order of blanks is making it on time tomorrow. Fingers crossed it stays that way though!
Everything I bought recently got here on time (from the USA and EU). A gift coming from the UK is on course to arrive by Monday. I did pay extra for most of my recent packages though.
Yeah two of my four are Xmas gifts for my kid. Glad I picked up the thing she wanted the most right after Thanksgiving!
I used a shipping plug through a friend to send the last 15-20 packages via UPS over USPS... so that it would have a better chance of arriving before christmas... UPS has actually been fast, even with ground. but USPS yeah has been haunting to say the least.
I’ve got just one that was finally updated yesterday to have landed in a Phoenix distribution center. Hoping it makes its way to my door today or tomorrow. It was posted December fourth. The missus had a package of her own post December fourth and arrived the 15th. I’d say we’ve been considerably lucky, given some people’s wait times. Photos of the distribution centers look hellish.
you’re right about the DC pictures. It’s going to be a while to clear the mountains of packages. On the plus side, one of my packages arrived today that had been shipped 2 day priority on the 9th. It was a surprise; the tracking had been non existent since it was initially scanned on the 9th. I’m glad to have it, and I hope everyone else waiting on stuff gets a pleasant surprise delivery this weekend too.
At the moment I have 37 USPS packages in limbo. Shipped 20 of them first class and the other 17 priority all on the same day over two weeks ago. None of them have arrived. Most of the first class ones are at least trackable and moving. Most of the priority ones still say the label has been printed but not scanned. I'm not upset about it at all though. Xmas plus Covid plus Trump equals a massive postal disaster.
I feel for those postal and private delivery company workers. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/12/15/postal-service-holiday-packages-delays/
That is...awful. I really feel for those workers... Is anyone else noticing a lag on the actual website as well when it comes to tracking, or is that just me? I’ve already well aware there will be delays but, I tried to check 2 different shipments this morning and the site didn’t even load when I otherwise had little issue on any other site. Must be a server overload or something.
Figure blanks package delayed, its fine whats an extra couple days on the grand scheme of things. Sucks though
I mailed out a package that cost me $44 by Priority Mail on Nov 23. That package was supposed to be delivered on Nov 30. They received that package on Dec 17. The international package I sent out in December to the UK took less than half that time to arrive.
We used to get our mail around 3 PM to 5 PM at the latest. He is now arriving at our house at 8:15 PM or later. This started happening when the Orange Cheeto installed one of his lackeys as the Post Master.
I have a package that was dropped off at a post office 100 miles away from my house, 10 days ago. Still isn't here and the web site has no estimated delivery date. I'm not complaining, though. Packages can wait, and if Christmas gifts don't arrive before the 25th, it's just a date. The focus needs to be on our postal workers who have had to deal with obstacle after obstacle this year.
Yeah, the site has been more glitchy than usual as of late. Sometimes displays "no incoming packages", which isn't accurate (currently have 2 in limbo). Usually if you check back an hour or so later the issue is resolved. When working properly it does a flawless job of automatically adding incoming (domestic) packages to the list. Recently a few fell through the cracks and had to be entered manually. NBD. A first world problem in its truest form. As @Roger said, USPS has literally been through the ringer this year... and yet the overwhelming majority of these packages still (eventually) make it to their destination. For an institution that has been dysfunctional & unprofitable for decades, it's pretty damn impressive if you really think about it. When it comes to toys (perhaps the epitome of a non-essential item), not even pressed by the delays. Sometimes the wait can make one even more rewarding whenever it may happen to arrive.
I’m a postal carrier. I’ve been working 13 to 15 hour days and haven’t had a day off in the past three weeks. My next day off is Christmas. I’ve got one package coming from Russia that I don’t know if it’s going to make it before Christmas and I’ve also got my wife’s big present coming via USPS and that one is delayed with no ETA. I appreciate that you guys are patient. You should hear some of the bullshit I have to deal with from postal customers who are freaking out about delays with their parcels. I hope you all have an awesome holiday!
I’m as impatient as they come, but given all the stuff postal workers and the Postal Service itself has gone through this year, on top of the steaming shit sandwich 2020 served everybody... I have nothing but patience. You have my utmost gratitude and sympathies.
All 37 of my packages are now at least scanned and moving now. About half are at the post office near the delivery What is the preferred gift for Postal people from random customers on their route these days? I have lots of packages picked up from my porch so I used to do $25 holiday gift certificates to places like starbucks but who even wants to go to starbucks during a fucking pandemic? Cash just seems sort of not thoughtful. Baked goods just don't make sense during the end of the world either. So what's the inside scoop? What do you brag about to other postal people? What do you complain about getting?
I gave my postal carrier a big popcorn tin from Harry & David. Long shelf life, the contents are shareable if he brings it back to the post office, and when the tin is empty you can put stuff in it.
Cash rules everything around us, so I’d go with cash. Gift cards are fun too, just make sure that it’s someplace that your carrier would go. You don’t want to get them a gift card to Texas roadhouse and then find out they’re vegan. LOL The fact that you’re actually considering giving your postal carrier a gift is awesome. Believe it or not but the majority of postal customers actually do not give their carrier a gift, and that’s ok, you’re not required to..
