Though it is in better condition than almost all the header cards on the new toys I get.
◆ Things at that time! Marusan Shoten Kanegon Phase 1 Light Blue Molding Color
Went for: 127,000 yen
A couple of recent big ones.
Bullmark Mechagodzilla, $10,752: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/o443534437
Bullmark Hawaii Hedorah, $6,639: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c873343207
How much is that gorilla in the window? A lot, that's how much:
@Robert D In addition to the first edition Marusan Goro, Toy's King also auctioned off the below early this Christmas morning. I thought the timing for these short two-day auctions was very surprising, but did not seem to hold off the heavy hitters. I'll add a photo here of the Goro for posterity:
First edition Gomess sold for ¥1.09MM:
First edition Pegira sold for ¥984k:
First edition j-tail Gojira sold for ¥454k:
Second edition Garamon sold for ¥164k:
Toy's King also requires a 10% consumption tax to be paid regardless of whether you live in Japan or not, so add another 10% to all these prices. That MechaG that sold for $10k USD previously also had this tax required. Just a heads up for folks to check the VAT required flag for some of these established shops that sell on YJA.
I forgot to ask about this one that ended a few weeks ago....
At first I thought it was a reissue, as the paint is so pristine looking. Given the 68,000 ending price, I assume it's vintage?
Beautiful paint scheme................!
@Robert D - Indeed, there are some examples out there of the Bullmark mid-size Mechagodzilla variant that have very heavy metallic sprays almost covering the entire toy. I have picked up one myself recently.
Speaking of pristine vintage toys with heavy metallic sprays, this Marusan Gomess just about knocked me flat when I first laid eyes on it. Unfortunately, I was not able to fight off the the Gomess Gunslingers for the prize:
Marusan Gomess sold for 262k yen:
Spoiler: more photos
Hi Mark - I completely forgot about your post with that metallic MG! Such a cool paint scheme, and your photos are great as well!
Anyone have any insight into the loose tail?
Never seen one presented like that before.
This is all the translation of the description says:
@liquidsky - It is not uncommon for sellers of rare vintage sofubi to pop open the joints and display the interior vinyl to prove that it is indeed the desired variant and not a counterfeit bootleg that has been repainted to match the rare version. Usually, the truth is found on the interior vinyl, and it could also provide the buyer a look at the condition on the inside of the toy as well. I see this quite often also at shops like Moserite/Kobe Toy where they have no fear about opening up very expensive toys to prove them out:
Regarding the pink vinyl Hawaiian Hedorah, some of them have color fading issues with the original Bullmark vinyl fading to look more like a light pink flesh-like color. Since there have been multiple runs of flesh vinyl copies from the 1980's kittoi bootlegs and the M1GO flesh vinyl reissues, I definitely appreciate the seller going to these kinds of measures to help prove the authenticity of the pieces, as the interior of the vinyl should still retain a brighter pink color as this one did. I think the seller of this specific Hedorah example just got cold feet about how to get the tail back in after they popped it out and was worried about damaging the toy.
That said, all I had to do was take one whiff of the smoggy beast when I unsealed it and I knew it was all good. I also had no difficulty reattaching the tail, and it fits like a charm without any looseness at all.
I think a few folks said they had not seen this one before, myself included. @michael how about you? 4.5"/11.5cm Kasa-obake yokai pachi went for ¥145k:
Spoiler: more photos
Yeah! I’ve seen and been outbid a few times over the years- I imagine this is popping up more after the yokai mandarake zenbu auctions. Love the sculpt but not for that price
I don't recall seeing this one available that often. I took a few shots at it, then thought about the month of January and heating oil bills—but I don't think that final price is too bad at all. I'm hoping someone here made the score!
Unfortunately not mine, but it will for sure be going to a really good home
If you are a Marusan Gomess collector, the last thirty days has seen almost all the big grails up for the auction except for the rakugaki paint-your-own blank on light blue vinyl, but perhaps that one is coming up next. Marusan Gomess on dark green vinyl with metallic blue sprays in immaculate condition sold for ¥637k (same seller as the minty silver spray Gomess above):
Spoiler: more photos
Did anyone see the Nitto Viras pendant sell? I was sure I was watching it but it disappeared, just wanted to know what it went for if anyone saw it?
I leave this auction here for the record, vintage Bullmark Godman cyborg.
Went for: 90,888 yen
I think there was some shenanigans with that Godman auction. That ending price is way out of whack and it is resisted.
You are right something is wrong with that seller or something went wrong during the auction, because as you say they have already reloaded the auction. We will see what happens and how the price ends.
