    The guy on the right is a Yokai called Abura-sumashi. I think it inspired many different characters, the first I can think of are Sakurambo from Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura and Mizuki's Konaki Jijii from GeGeGe No Kitaro. Having said that I think quite a few owe one to this fella.
