 Re: Large Hadron Collider
They should shot two hedorans together and make a giant one.
So anyways, my concern is, even if the expirement is a success, how big will a mini big bang be compared to earth??? They call it the big bang for nothing...

The only thing that reassures me is that renowned cripple Stephen Hawking hasn't said anything bad about it, actually betting $100 that it won't work. Otherwise, we'll know soon enough I guess.

At this point, I like to think that we are dead, but we were all sent to the same interactive afterlife that's exactly like the life we had before.

Well, he bet $100 that the LHC would not find the Higgs Boson, but not finding the Higgs would not necessarily mean that the LHC didn't 'work' - It could give results far more shocking than finding the Higgs would be ...

All I gotta say is I read Earth by David Brin, and it puts the fear in you when it comes to human-created black-holes.

 Re: Large Hadron Collider
Just saw a headline on a monitor that I walked by...is all this fun now delayed 'til spring? What a long, boring winter it will be....think I'll take a 5 month nap. Wake me up when the big sucking noise thingy starts. I was so looking forward to the Eschaton.

 Re: Large Hadron Collider
Yeah its Bush's fault the general population is made up of idiots that always want more than they can afford and corporations are made up of greedy fucks in suits that are more than willing to take advantage of that.
Not defending Bush or arguing at all, just saying. Plus I don't think he is smart enough to take down a financial system or plan 9/11 even.

 Re: Large Hadron Collider
I think that most presidents are symbolic, sort of figureheads representing the LCD of popular feeling. The Higgs-Boson is theoretical, but may be proven real. Now this thread has me thinking that aliens wrecked our economy so that we wouldn't mind having the planet used as a maquiladora for small-scale black hole production. Hooray for free trade! Vote for physics!

Or perhaps they screwed up our economy so they can come to the "rescue", then it turns out they wants us as food.

 Re: Large Hadron Collider
So they found Higgs Boson, which could be the missing link in the particle physics world. I hear they are now going to double the power and maybe try and find dark matter in 2015. Anyone else find this interesting?

I find it to be extremely interesting!
Between all the new discoveries at CERN, and the new graphine discoveries/applications, its an exciting time for science!

I say. Makes me want to go back to school. How is that, Chris? (though I'm honestly curious)
