Im not sure if you mean "background"(historical) or just the way "how" you can see BOTH faces ?
if it´s pic nr. 1....the total face stops at the eyebrows....and you have to "delete" the mouth in your mind.
pic nr. two also stops at the "eyebrows" and again, you have to delete something when looking at it....the beak/pecker and you can interprete it as the forehead
if you didnt mean this and want to know if it is a character in kaiju-world...then sorry

It's likely to have some traditional Japanese symbolism behind it, but I can't even guess what it is.
