Am I coming off as pissed? I'm not. I'm just making fun of you because of your 'I'm too cool for this, I don't have time for this but I'm going to post anyway, Internet badass' attitude that a lot of newbz around here (and every other message board) show. I didn't feel like picking apart your useless post, just wanted to use your last line as a goof, nothing more.

ahhh i got ya, i didn't mean to come off as "too cool" .. but ill take the goof.I dont have time to b*tch about useless stuff if what i was getting at, im on message boards as often as i can.

The american idols thread sub heading even reads: "kaws, kozik, le merde...'art toys'"
From what im deducting from your comments, none of that belongs on your SB....

that sub head is old but learn your kozik! but also
some shit gets a pass and I'm not even gonna try and explain why.
Maybe someone else can. but this is not the place for platform toys.
a ton of toys are smooth but they also dont have just a ball for a hand with a tube shaped arm and a pot belly and 0 sculptural details altogether. I guess the ferg toy has sculptural shit in the brain but that's just an accessory as far as I'm concerned. for a toy that is basically a copy of any other platform toy.
some think of s7 MF toys as "designer". I guess they are if you need to call them something. but they sure arent platforms. They are designed by artists that have fully thought out a character that has parts that are specific to that character. rv has leaf arms and feet and a rose head with his own specific face. all fully sculpted out using sofubi sculpting techniques. (eg. how the grooves are done ,the way things are rounded etc.) and while following the "rules" of MF look. not china vinyl looking sculpts at all. I think there is a major difference in the look of western sculpts.

For the record I am not wanting any Eric Scarecrow on these boards or do I collect it. But Eric Scarecrow 's toys are not platform toys, and if it was made in Japanese vinyl would it be accepted here.... no
So Kaws doesnt belong here either. Made in China designed by a someone in America. Neither does 3A, and the list goes on. These boards are on many levels Hypocritical.

kaws first toy was made by bounty x hunter & most subsequent ones were made by medicom in japan. this isn't 'sofubi only kaiju place' either. just not certain types of things. either you get it or you don't but it's the way it is & has been since the board's inception. people will certainly try to let you know as was the case here. so take heed & don't fight it.
no one cares how much you "DGAF" either brahhhh

Had to dig up my old password for this one..
First off, I have been a member of these forums for a while.. I've lurked here on and off since the RFSO days, so I am pretty familiar with the culture and mentality here. I collect all kinds of toys including obscure (and not so obscure) Japanese pieces. I love toys.
I don't discriminate based on labels. If a toy speaks to me ..even if that toy is a fucking polly pocket, I will embrace it and add it to the shelves.

I don't post my stuff here nor do I care to have my stuff posted here. I make toys that I want to make. Some people like them and its obvious from reading this thread, some people hate them. That is fine..that's life.
A lot of thought and effort goes into the toys I make. I try to make toys that are enjoyable to look at and fun to play with. I think most people familiar with my stuff will agree that i have my own thing going on. The piece in question (young gohst) follows a lineage of previous pieces, more specifically, a character that has been in my work for over 10 years. It is the infant (stripped down non articulated) representation of that character. Because of the inner brain/outer body relationship, this specific figure was best realized in Japanese vinyl.
I guess that is what spurred me to write this..the misconception that i just copied some other designer platform whatever the fuck, and then put it out there.. and as stated above, that is not the case.

It doesn't matter to me whether or not this piece belongs here..or how it is ultimately judged or labeled by this community. What does matter is that if if you are going to try and define it, then know what you are talking about. Know where it came from. I would give you the same respect.

Ferg, I loved lot of toys you've done over the years.
It's great to now the history behind Young Gohst and I know you were not trying to emulate other designers platform here but in the end, for me, he really look like a simple munny.

nefash: I would encourage you to check one out in person...if you get any sort of KR vibe from these I would be very surprised.

bansheebot: I would never assume anyone should give two shits about me or my toys.. history or otherwise. My main point was, that if you want to form an opinion as to whether or not these belong in the american idols section of skullbrain you should look a little deeper into the lineage/intent of the piece.

I really didn't want to get caught up in defending these. I think they are a very fun little piece. You think otherwise. I am cool with that.

To answer your platform question; The head and body are a vessel to contain the brain / brain-stem / tongue. The brains are the meat of these. Luke did some really cool stuff riffing off of the original brain sculpt. If you wanted to call these a platform I wouldn't argue, but I would say they are more interesting (to me) than a typical example.
