Too many releases too soon for my money. I know people sell things for a profit, thats just business as usual. My feeling is thats what people were thinking set Co's like SB and others apart from the rest of the mass market strategy. It just looks like reality is taking hold here. I guess thats why it's so important to stay focused and only collect what you truly like.It is a business after all and i'm sure alot of people have alot at stake.

Keep on smile'n :D

its not greed, its called 'reality'. Businesses, all businesses, exist in order make profit and achieve status. Japan, especially. The lines there are completely blurred.

Japanese toys only seem 'artistic' because it has traditionally been difficult to obtain them. That is no longr the case, new markets have opened and now those markets will be utilized.

sorry but to me this sound like another excuse for what ur doing?

do toys for the money if it works for u but
trying to make "collectors" think this is only
way it works is just absurd.

OK. please give me some examples of companies that make 'collectible'things that do it for reasons other than profit and status.

Rumble Monsters.

Wasn't it uttered on here that is why the S7 release was so limited was the fact that he does it as a hobby and whats to keep it that way?

all of this leads me to believe many people that 'collect' dont really care about the object, but instead the 'status' associated with 'rareness or exclusivity'.

Is it fair to relegate some toy designer/maker in Japan to eternal debt and holding down 2 full time gigs so that a collector can feel superior ?

Or, is it better that the designer/maker realize a decent profit so they can concentrate full time on their craft and have resources to improve thier concepts and
abilities?

I know many, many artists in every genre for 30 years and have yet to meet a single one that does not want maximum positive response from the public. or a segment of it.

'keeping it real' is only another marketing ploy.

I hope SB makes a zillion figures, and hope theres lots of new sculpts.

yes, it appears so..BUT...the Rumble Monsters are,in reality, only physically possible because of the creators access to the other, functioning companies and their manufacturing system. he is not whittling them by hand out of his house.

IMO Dehara's clay pieces are about the closest to
purity in figures' I can think of.

I'm in agreement with Frank - WOW - LOL ! I too hope that SB makes a zillion figures , then what good reason would there be for keeping the prices per figure so high ? If production runs do increase I will expect prices for figures to fall or I won't be shelling out the green backs so freely. I think that rareness was a big factor to a good percentage of SB collectors from the begining . Seems like this debate alway's pops up around the time there are a bunch of NEW releases all at one time - hint hint ! Ahhh, everybody likes the smell of green.

Oh yeah - Dehara rulz !

I think you are right, and that gives me hope.

I have the completist urge with SB (and you helped, with all those complete collection pics last year before u sold it all off), but with an ever increasing releases schedule I have settled it thusly: I am basically completing the list that S7 put out a while ago. My goal is to get every SB production piece put out prior to 2006...that is for the lines I collect - which is basically everything but Balzac related stuff (and thats not beacsue I don't like it, but I can't compete with the Balzac hardcore). For newer stuff I am going to be more picky...maybe. But right now I have a severe cash problem - not enough of it!!!

I say keep 'em coming. Way I look at it, my hobby is finding and acquiring them, and I want to rock the hobby for a few years at least before I settle into the reward of having a collection that's 80-90% and above complete. I never feel bad when the releases drop, and I like having the 'rarer''exclusive' stuff, sure, but I get what I like. My most expensive pieces are balzac bees and the employee bee. I like bees. If exclusivity was what I was really after, I'd just get the D.A.R.K red balzac limitation 13 and call it a day.And cut myself in the d.a.r.k because I didnt have one of the three 'custom' 13th bees from SDCC...I dunno, since childhood I've thought of toys as fun, I can't quite let them make me feel bad or cheated or what have you.

The glut of SB releases over the October month is a result of misconstrued planning, and factory delays leaving it all amuck. Suffice to say that November and December will be much quieter. When a lot of these projects were conceived, they were waaayyy off in the future, somehow they all crashed into one another leaving us with a ton of releases all at once. The green barbarian, silver mantis, artoyz set were never planned to coincide with halloween. Heck the skulletors were not planned to be the weekend before halloween, and the halloween set was not scheduled to have started on the 21st of October. Because of all this we have a grip of stuff all hitting at once, and no one can really afford to sit on it for too long. The end is near, but not the real end.
