nope thats a new tower

Henry said the tower in the set was completely redone and has Pushead style stitching holding it together.

Now those minis don't look overworked. The sprays are a bit more subtle and work quite nicely on the models. I really like the colors too. Very nice.

The set looks great like that. I do have to agree, I prefer the bright colors, but no one would complain in having that set.

Love the tower, specially the reworking of it.

Who does the bloody arm belong to?

Were there also black-ish painted Pus mini sets released at SDCC?

That pus mecha head deserves a new mecha body if it ever get made !

Mini Tyranno-ju?

Black and grey marbled gorilla was a test shot only.

If a new head based on the header/shirt illustration were to be made, Cosmo Liquid would have to be in the running!

Anyone know whether this set will also be offered now in Japan?

Last years SDCC releases weren't so I doubt these would be!

Maybe. The Tyranno-Ju has Three fingers as well but that arm seems a little to elongated for a mini.

The Pus HP's were fucking incredible up close. I held up the line because I could not stop looking at them. Personally I thought it as great to see Pushead's techniques on something so smooth.

Looking at the detailed pics on hxs now, the pusmecha does look good!

the details on the mecha must be incredible with eacch so different. I'll hold on the line too.

The pus paint is not a good compliment to this sculpt

i think it it might've looked better on a regular gorilla-ju or Tyranno-ju even. There's more texture to show off his style.

I don't get what everyone means about his style not working on something smooth. Aren't most pushead toys (capt, pirate, wing, etc) pretty "smooth" when compared to most jp vinyl?

I really think his style and technique work very well with the Mecha Gorilla. His paint jobs look like several layers of colors but when you see it in person there is no thickness to it and no brushstrokes. In other words, the surface looks like it's oxidized and rusty rather than being made up of several layers of paint. Because of this, it works well on a figure whose material is suppose to look like metal.

I don't think there was an assumption of brush strokes present on the models, it seems pretty clear, at least to me, that the paint is flat judging from the pictures which have been presented. I think it is also clear that this was an attempt to emulate metal that has undergone oxidation. Due to the nature of such metal, the fact that the paint is so flat actually deters any attempt at realism from succeeding; metals which undergo this process tend to develop a texture which could, conveniently enough, be emulated through the use of brush strokes, or perhaps an added filler.

Don't get me wrong, I think he did a killer job, but I believe it is more caricatural than a reflection of reality.



This I believe is true, however, this amount of work doesn't go into production runs. My opinion is not biased towards the sculpt, I'm not a fan of this overworked Skull Pirate either:

I would take a marbled Gorilla-ju/Skull Pirate any day over these HP models. It's not a matter of hate, Pushead is undoubtedly a great artist, just a matter of personal taste. I'm sure those who share mine do so for the general aesthetic that brings us to this board to begin with.

Just received a stretch monster head which convinced me to behead my Japanese version. I was terrified he'd bleed to death but there's a plug!!

I'm just drooling over the mini Goga Ian...
