As someone who's never been to any of the cons, D-Con does look a lot more attractive... But also maybe a lot more amateurish in terms of vendors / exhibitors. Some "big names" might make more people want to travel, especially agoraphobic ones...
i honestly think even just one of those would really push out of town collectors to make the trek. I would think that Real x Head, Secret Base and Gargamel would do just as well in terms of sales at a DCon as they would at NY or SD, and without the massive cost. I wonder what the main resistance is here, maybe Dcon's just to close to NY?
I was actually surprised by how small the toy area felt at SDCC. Kind of bummed me out, because i had this massive image in my head of what it would be.
At least a 1/3 of the booths are like art fair/craft/etsy at Dcon and dont know how well things go for all these small vendors, especially some displaying at a show/convention for the first time. Maybe thats what they mean by amateurish?
I think that's what it means... and honestly, while I didn't support them financially, I'm glad to see individual artists selling their wares at Dcon... i'm sure they may be priced out as Dcon increases in popularity. I was hoping for some RxH/Uamou presence. Gargamel would be awsesome, too! Pus and SB would be great as well, even though I'm not as into it. Their presence would make it a lot busier and crowded, i'm sure. either way, my first con since SDCC in 2005, and I'll be sure to go back next year. Seeing some Japanese companies there, such as Refreshment and Instinctoy, was REALLY cool. I hope more Japanese companies make it out next year.
One of them was me, and it was indeed a pleasure, David. I traveled across the country for my first Dcon, looking forward to meeting many of you. Between the hotel and the con (and a lot of cigarettes smoked), that mission was a huge success. Too many board members and artists to "shout out" (I'll save that for the Oscar acceptance speech), but you know who you are. Y'all made this east coast boy feel right at home. Had you had a "Ted Koppel" patch on, I would have gladly introduced myself, G.
Likewise, Mikee Next year we should def coordinate a 'brainer hang sesh at the hotel. We can lounge in the lobby wearing pink skullbrain booty shorts while pm'ing each other at the computer station (or by smartphone). SB: it's the new "JUICY"
Yeah that's what I meant. There are tons of etsy-type events in Montreal, and the quality is very random. Unless you're into hand-made sweat-scented candles or something. That's the impression I had gotten from the vendors list, but I'm glad to hear it was not the case.
Honestly you can't compare dcom to sdcc! Sure you got PK VS MVH, but other wise you can walk through Dcon in 15 mins.... Right?!?!? I guess there's more room to hug it at out at Dcon bros , DUDERS!!!!
No hugs for you... I want to go to SDCC soo bad so yes I can't compare it to DCON but I can to NYCC and I like DCON more.
You guys seriously need to relax and not take things so seriously. We are all adults that collect toys. That concept should come with a certain level of humility and levity.
Fuck you, I'm a manly toy collecting bar fighter ! There's no room for jokes, just vinyl and dirty shot glasses I FART A LOT.
