I think the bigger issue here is the fact that Robert @xSuicide Squadx has twenty-six cinema monsters

Ok again you are referring to someone collecting different versions of a sculpt. I have no problem with someone having a bigger collection then me. I have no problem with someone having a complete collection of a sculpt. I'm talking about owning two of the same release. You are comparing this incorrectly.

I get what you're saying and I respect your opinion but I personally don't have any problem with what anyone has in their collection if they obtained it in a fair and ethical way.

So many toy makers don't even tell anyone how many pieces are in a given release these days. How can you decide what to be upset about? If it's a run of 10 is it wrong to get 2 of them? How about a run of 20 pieces? Or a run of 50 pieces? If it hits triple digits and gets to 100 pieces is that okay? Where do you draw the line and decide it suddenly becomes wrong and hurts the community? I just can't get behind the idea that someone would want to police someone else's collection just because they managed to get more than one toy from any given release. There are lots of screwed up things that happen in this hobby but I don't think someone getting doubles of a toy is one of them.

How would you even explain that to someone? -Oh I'm sorry but it's wrong for you to have doubles of that toy because someone else somewhere who you don't know probably wants one of those and even though that random community member may or may not eventually sell it or trade it or flip it I still think it's more fair that they have it instead of you.- That whole idea just sounds like pure entitlement to me. You can't have two because I don't have one. That attitude might be understandable if you are taking about a sibling or best friend or significant other but for random people around the world who you don't know it sounds pretty unreasonable even if you consider them part of a "community" just because they buy toys.

It's funny that this topic came up because I just had my first inner conflict with copping doubles of a new piece. I ended up copping 2 of the new pink/GID Kumons. Normally with super limited runs, I wouldn't even consider trying to score 2 of the same piece however in this case since it was a pre-order left open for several days and every single order was being fulfilled, I did not see the harm in it. In addition, the fact that Dennis allowed the order to go through leads me to believe that he was ok with it as well. I'm so glad that I did, the two pieces have completely different marbling! Everyone has some very good points in this thread so far, I look forward to seeing what other people have to say.

I have a few doubles but technically only one. I have one opened and one bagged of the pre-order open-run, "vinyl wars" Goji from Butanohana. Did it because I could and it just felt right, being such a huge fan. It was inexpensive and I don't plan on letting it go. I would never do it for a limited number release. To me having doubles feels like a waste of my money cause I display everything and two of the same doesn't appeal to me. And I don't buy for trade bait.

The other doubles I have aren't really doubles to me. They're the reissues of Buta's cream Woo and yellow Red King. I had the OGs so I didn't really need them, but again, massive fan of Buta, I couldn't not get them. I keep the reissues bagged and stored safely, and I proudly display the OGs. I guess that collector mentality wouldn't let me pass on the reissues..

That's an open run there is no harm in that Noel. I've no problem with people buying multiples of an open run.

I'm going to go around and bang collectors wives to get doubles of toys I already own! Too soon?

All kidding aside (I'd never do that) I think the issue here is more about people putting in serious multiple entries to lotteries and gaining flip bait (doubles) to complete their already exorbitant high-end collections and insure themselves of a continuem rather than doubles themselves. I'm not on the dumpster fire called IG so I don't really know- do these people always keep the doubles or do they post them to entice people into giving up one they need (also high end lottery toy- given everyone's need for the latest and greatest new toy)?

I also do not understand how the same people seem to constantly win lotteries (making think there has to be some collusion going on btw the makers) or just have so much disposable cash they go through any length to obtain things just to show off and feel good about themselves on IG.

My only reference for all this is Gorilla Ju because I remember when I used to like that line and wondered WTF? (maybe that has changed over the years) and I don't really follow any of these new toys people might be talking about.

Again that's an open run. I'm referring to lotto doubles or show release doubles.

Lixx the HxS stuff is a great example I see people posting multiples of a toy limited to 30 sold only at lotto and can't help but wonder how and why they need to other then to gloat or to trade flip.

Well I figured you might be talking about that line (as one of many examples) but didn't want to come out and outright say it. Me on the other hand, well I just don't give a flying fuck because I don't enter lotteries.:D

@coma21 I was just expressing how I feel about doubles and how they exist in my own collection.
I must admit though that I actually have a few doubles of newer butas that I accidentally ended up with, but am currently working on finding good homes for them, behind the scenes in the dark PM underworld of SB, for fair prices. Now if you ever fuckin come at me like that again, I'll thumbs down one of your Oat videos.

@noeleaser I think open-run marbled figs are the perfect time to grab doubles if you can afford it.

I agree with evom here, Butanohana collectors have it a bit rough for new releases. No international sales so it's always aftermarket YJA //Mandarake, or you hope someone stateside gets some for sale- but you never know if they will. When covering your bases its often easy to end up with more than one. For the most part though Buta collectors help each other out as much as possible, especially on this board.

To that point though, if you end up with doubles you're usually going to help others out, especially on the boards. You aren't gonna trade flip or make someone else give up something in their collection since you lucked out with two. Most of these people gloating on IG... like Zheng with dual HxS... are trying to flip or use it as leverage to get something else. That's when you run into issues.

Even if you aren't flipping, which I find hard to believe, why take two of something and hold on to both if it's a super limited run and you know a ton of folks are gunning for it? I don't have much skin in the game for most of the items this happens with, it rarely if ever impacts me, but I hate to see if happen to other people.

I think the even BIGGER issue is that I have 65 Obake Dogs! But no one gives a fuck about those. But, hey, I still don't, and wouldn't, have doubles of any single one! Monster or Dog!

I'm not sure what else can be added on to get the point across. I totally get where Mikee's coming from, and I'd like the think the MVH DX and Kumon hoarding examples I provided are well within the point he's making. I wouldn't say it's at all upsetting, but more so irksome. To the example given of Eric's Kumon collection(he's not the aforementioned in my example), he's got a shit ton! And it's awesome! But he doesn't rock two of the same ones, and certainly not to aid in his conquest to hit people sayin' "I've got this one you're missing, and you've got one I'm missing. Trade me that one you probably didn't intend to let go of, while I actually don't miss out, because I've got two."

Robert this is exactly what I'm talking about. Thank you for jumping in. I'm just trying to push a concept of fair play where fair play is needed. As someone who owns literally almost every cadaver kid I'm not going to tell people not to collect but I will say I don't own any doubles of something I know someone would love to have on there shelf.

Those are great pieces! I love how each one is not 100% the same even though its still the same run.

All I've learned from this thread is that I should have a kumon in my collection :D

I did know someone who bought doubles but he had severe obsessive compulsive disorder; He bought two copies of the Hanson Brothers CD. As far as buying doubles and flaunting the pictures, they are just trying to show their wealth and status. Sometimes people don't even know what they are buying but that it has speculative value.
