Was going to talk about it, but learned I could just point to it: Skip the click if you're planning on seeing Logan in the theaters. Also, SEE LOGAN IN THE THEATRES! Probably a little early to get all spoilery here, but damn, what an impressive surprise. Between it and Legion I almost feel healed from the wounds of having followed the franchise. And no, Bryce, I didn't.
Mh, they have already fooled me twice with the Wolverine movies. I kind of cannot go . . . Also, pretty bummed that MArvel seem to have dropped the ball with Iron Fist. Those reviews are not good at all.
I am not at all convinced that Iron Fist will be bad. All the negative reviews I've seen are based on either JUST the first episode or the first 6 episodes rather than the series. Daredevil season 1 started very slow. Jessica Jones did too.
I was so wrong. Ironfist is awful. Caught a bunch of eps and the actors and acting and fights are all pretty horrible. The main guy goes from pious monk to spoiled rich kid to ultra angry constantly for no reason and does them all really poorly. He is simply impossible to like and the enemies so far just seem to be one spoiled incestuous family of jerks. They are straight out of some shit soap opera. I don't think I will go back to finish the series. This incarnation of Ironfist would be better suited in an episode of Sabrina The Teenage Witch instead of adding a horrible show to what was an incredible pairing between Marvel and Netflix.
You'd be doing yourself a genuine disservice by not checking this one on an the big, fat screen... trust me? TOTALLY understand where the first two would leave you feeling twice shy, though. Haven't read 'em, but I fully intend to skip this one. Netflix + Marvel just isn't panning out for this aging enthusiast. Go with Legion instead, y'all!
Yeah I finished Iron Fist and it's 2 big problems were that the villains never felt really threatening (and frankly there didn't seem to be a real big goal, just the equivalent of office politics in the super villain world) and the protagonist was dumb. I mean, literally stupid. The kind of guy you seem to be able to say "Hey! What's that?!" and when he turns you can run away or something. Yeah Legion is far, far better of a show. Shame, really.
I binged Iron Fist over the weekend. I thought there was one interesting character, which was corporate douche-bag brother. He was an asshole, but really had a lot to put up with his psychotic dad, and he actually had an arc. I actually felt for the guy, he never had a chance, but kept fighting. Don't want to be him, just found him the most interesting of the bunch. I also enjoyed it whenever Madam Gao was on screen. The actor who plays her chewed up that part and spit it out. Real missed opportunity with the meek assistant to psycho dad. I was really rooting that at some point he would turn out to be a stealth hand badass. That would have been cool. Instead it's all "it's just ice cream". =P
Agreed on all points about awful Iron Fist is. Just low quality control on every aspect of the production.Baggy story, flacid acting...just lazy. Hard to imagine anyone involved is a comic book fan let alone Iron Fist fan..
Just finished Iron Fist last night. My girlfriend and I enjoyed it, but I can see why people would dislike it. Is it as good as Daredevil Season 1 & 2? Certainly not, but it's not a flop by any means. I'm not totally emotionally invested into Danny as a character. I do agree his acting was less than spectacular but for what it was, it did the job. The character that stole the show, though was Claire. She's been the constant throughout every Marvel series so far and this was, so far, her best season yet. Rosario Dawson definitely nailed it. Out of every Marvel Netflix series, Iron Fist does sit at the bottom for me though, which is a shame. I'm giving it a 7/10. Looking forward to the Punisher series later this year or next. PS. All those Rotten Tomato "reviews" are total BS. The critics were only allowed to watch 6 episodes, and the main complaint was pacing. Gimme a break. Shove it up your corn hole.
Saw Logan tonight. Made me cry. Both emotional and visceral. I wish they had included the Reaver whose bottom half is a tank. Only negative I can think of.
halfway through iron fist... big fat MEH so far Spoiler the drunken master fight had so much potential, but it was choreographed and edited horribly! i just couldn't enjoy it. sad.
I thought Iron Fist was ok. I think one of the big problems was the Danny Rand character was going through way too many things but not really focusing on anything (did you come back to be the head of Rand or take down The Hand and while you're doing that, try to make use of the Iron Fist..."I failed at my [Iron Fist] duty."..."I have to do this because I am the Iron Fist"..."but I can't seem to do this properly." FFS!). The fight scenes, some were ok, while others sort of fell short. The fight scene in the compound was ok. The fight scene versus the Drunken style was terrible (sorry if that is a spoiler but anyone who has watched a lot of martial arts movies should have seen that coming). Colleen Wing's fights seemed a bit more interesting at times. The series seems like they condensed years of Iron Fist comics into the series. Pretty dumb if you ask me. Yes the series is kind of slow and seems like a soap opera at times, but that is the setting. That is where Danny Rand comes from. When critics complained that it doesn't have the grit of Luke Cage, I kind of wonder if they realize that Iron Fist is set in a different part of the city from Luke Cage It's like saying the seedy part of a city and the rich part of the city should feel the same. Now I'm wondering, will The Defenders start off set in a much later time from where each series left off? I don't give Iron Fist a thumbs up or a thumbs down. Like Lalo, I give it a Meh, but not as fat as the one Lalo gave it. Spoiler Davos seemed more interesting than Danny Rand.
I agree with a lot of that. I think for comic book characters you usually get these grand moments of character development where they have to make some devastating decision based off their entire life that decides their whole future. Iron Fist didn't have any of those moments. We never knew what his true motivation was supposed to be. Did he just come back to be a billionaire again? He didn't even know what happened to his parents so it couldn't have been about revenge even though they painted it that way later. Was the Iron Fist power good or bad? Why would no one ever teach him that it could do things besides break stuff if the monks were good guys? Was he just supposed to be a slave that guards a tunnel until he dies? The Hand are bad guys obviously but who were the good guys? The entire show just went nowhere and explained nothing which is the opposite of what all the other Marvel netflix shows did. Meh.
I agree with this. Ive never been a fan of super heroes or the movies that come out about them, but this movie was worth seeing in theater.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., my favorite dumdum yumyum, is back; and I'm loving the latest soap opera twistscape. Extra fun is that Archer is playing in the same realm of pretense this season! Ahhhh, television. Gives so much and asks so little.
I read through these posts having not watched Iron fist. I honestly am scared to. My favorite character from DC is Green Lantern and we saw how that went. My favorite marvel character and at this point favorite comic book character is Iron fist. Danny has always been the best at being fun when fun is necessary and business when business needs doing. Brubaker, Fraction and Kaare Andrews all added amaz By depth to the character during the last decade of Marvel. It's a shame those stories and ideas couldn't be properly used to set up a character I know has so much potential. Add to that nothing Luke and Danny as team are some of the best stuff you can ask for and I'm at a point where skipping season 1 and going straight to Defenders to get my Heroes for Hire fix seems like it may happen. That said my top five Marvel are Iron Fist, Daredevil, Strange, Black Bolt and Winter Soldier and by years end they will have all been made flesh. That is something 10 year old me would never have believed was gonna happen. I still remember being shocked that Leo was considered for Spider-Man back then.
Just watch the series, ya big wiener. Nah, but seriously it's not an atrocious series. It fits in with the rest of the Netflix series, but isn't as bright a star as the rest if that makes any sense. Coulda been worse. Coulda been a Scifi Channel Swamp Thing made-for-tv movie. I'll also add that I think with the Defenders, the chemistry and personalities of the group will pull it all together and make for a splendid show, as long as it just doesn't come off as a cluster fuck. You can't really beat Daredevil Season 2.
Watched Legion S01E01 last night, doesn't seem crazy at all. I kid, seems batshit and I'm sure I'll finish the season over the weekend. Not going to even try Iron Fist, haven't read a single positive review. Was going to give it a go simply for Ser Loras' sake, but nope. Anyone else watching Powerless? I dig it, but have zero faith in it surviving.
