She was actually costumed to loosely fit in with her even more revealing and risqué outfit from the New 52 comics. The Joker's aesthetic had nothing to do with it. Margot also chose her own influence on the final design, which was inspiration taken from Debbie Harry. I thought her speech and mannerisms were relatively spot on to her character from Batman: The Animated Series. So I fully appreciated how she approached the role. She just recently confirmed a solo movie for Harley, and she hopes to bring back the traditional jester outfit. So hopefully that works out.
I know its based on that, I meant that having the classic costume would not fit in with this version of Jokers attire. Not only that but it wouldnt work with the rest of the teams costumes either. She sounded similar to BTAS Harley, but the ass shots, framing her body, and doing gymnastics in what she was wearing felt more of a lure to draw more people in. I get why, I just dont enjoy looking at. Again the classic wouldnt work in this version of DCU, but id still rather her see every scene of her in that, or civilian styled clothes in that color scheme, than what she was wearing.
Ahh, I see what you mean about her outfit. And Harley has actually had a background in gymnastics in some of the story arcs in comics, which I'm sure derived from her similar antics in TAS. I don't think they overly sexualized her, but they certainly pushed it, which was definitely in attempts to lure more of a male audience than was already interested.
I think any connection, and this is a pretty remote one [unfortunately] for the general movie-going public, you can draw between SS and Debbie Harry is the highlight of that film. I would say that the hot mess that made it to the screen is some of the worst of I have seen this year, but Warner/DC is already challenging pretty but much any film with their earlier summer entry, not to mention that atrocity from Fox. But outside of Andy, no one wants to see me rant on for another page about its many flaws.
Well, I might just have to expunge it, if only to take my place at your side while we rule the galaxy. Until then though, much as I am not a proponent of Gawker media (alas, I miss the old iO9), it is interesting to see what will happen to the sites now. And, meanwhile, we are treated to some rather interesting articles in the aftermath, like this: Breaking: IO9 EDITOR CONFESSES TO CONSPIRACY TO DESTROY DC MOVIES And if you happen to not understand the context behind this article, just... consider yourself lucky.
Loving Luke Cage so far and the stage for musical guests is a bonus. And we get Misty Knight... i'm in
Finished Luke Cage and though I liked it a lot I did not love it like I love Jessica Jones or DD. LC has a little bit of the Superman problem - it is hard to fear for a hero who is indestructible. Jessica Jones found a great way around this problem but LC did not. It is a great show, but not as great as I was hoping for it to be. I loved the dig at BvS in the finale. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - the new season is really good so far, too.
Freaking awesome! Having grown up on Batman and seeing the movie dozens of times, I'm really looking forward to this. I wish they could have all the original voices I'm liking Luke Cage. I never finished DD of Jessica Jones but I think I'm actually going to finish watching Luke Cage. Even the DC shows, Arrow, Flash...never finished them. Oddly enough, I watched the whole first season of Supergirl.
Saw Doctor Strange yesterday. I was curious because of the talent involved, and not being able to finish a single Strange comic ever. It's perfectly watchable. Loved Tilda as the ancient one. Would watch a spin-off with her. Sort of hated the lore, or the way it was presented with exposition. The visuals are neat. I saw it in 3D and often it looked like flat CGI animation though. I'd recommend it if you're any curious. (Though it wont change your life and I forgot most everything already.) Binged the Netflix Marvel shows just recently the first time. Like most people loved DD s1 and JJ. DD s2 was ok and Luke Cage was boring but watchable (while doing something else). Should try Supergirl but the mixed reviews dampen my enthusiasm a bit.
Saving my Luke Cake thoughts for another rant, but I guess I am coming from a biased viewpoint, which I will own up to, having been a fan for so long. Seeing one my my all-time favourite [super]heroes garner some attention is really special; I could not have ever seen this day coming years ago. But at the same time - because of this - I had a lot of trepidation seeing how it would be handled. But I do agree, he definitely suffers from the overpowered situation in many respects if not handled correctly (and I am not sure the show dealt with it as well as they might have). I also saw Strange yesterday also. Since it is still fairly new, I will avoid any mentions of plot or points of note, but what I will say is this: I do not have a twenty paragraph rant about it or complaints to give about things that irked me coming right out of the theatre. So, for anyone that knows me (or has been subjected to my text blocks here) you might know that as pretty decent praise. Would not say I had my mind blown or anything, but it was definitely a pleasurable viewing. So, while I still would take [a lot] of issue with the white-washing, there are plenty of other venues to read better arguments than I am capable of making for that; it was a fun film, and right up there with most of the top among the Marvel/Disney library.
Doctor Strange Great cast, great visuals. Good humor. Once again Marvel fails to give us a menacing villain (I can't even remember their names anymore) though at least how the final confrontation was solved was new and clever (though I think they could have played it out a little more). 7/10 I am wondering where they will go with the magic angle in the MCU - for now, the sorcerers seem a little overpowered?! The Logan-trailer does nothing for me. I am glad that Jackman is done. Never really liked his take on Wolverine and never liked the movies much either.
I'm glad i'm not the only one that could never get thru a Dr Strange comic. Because of that- I wasn't sure what to expect but was happily surprised and very glad I went to see it on the big screen.
Indeed, that is pretty much the same as i thought about it. Did you not like Mads Mikkelsen's acting or just the character? I thought Mads did a good job with what he had to work with . . . . Definitely a flick worth seeing in 3D.
I liked his acting and you are right - he did a great job. I just think most of the villains in Marvel's movies are somehow forgettable goons with hard to follow motivations. They just get too little screen time and almost no backstory. I really hated and feared JJ's Killgrave. I somehow felt with DD's Kingpin and Loki. But what did Kaecilius (or Ronan or Malekith or Ultron) want?! Bring doom? For doom's sake? You have these great actors that should be capable to make me hate them or even be afraid of them but they don't. And I think it is because they are not given the chance to deliver.
Yeah, that was certainly the case with Mads in Doctor Strange. I'm not a huge fan of Cumberbatch, but i thought he was well suited to the role. Benedict Wong is always good. too.
