ha, it does look like him doesn't it! the folkloric (Puerto Rico) mask of the "vejigante" is a prevalent symbol in a lot of my art. it is a horned mask traditionally made of papier-maché.
Painted this up over a couple of nights last week, tried to emulate the techniques used in the original poster. I used watercolours and a black ink wash to tighten things up!
I'll have a few of these prints at Giant Robot's Multimatters show. They are super messy but my friends say I'm just too harsh on myself sometimes. I haven't done a linoblock print in at least 20 years but am having fun making them. So far I haven't gouged myself but I keep forgetting that it prints opposite of what you carve so my signature always ends up backwards...except on this one
Not sure yet... I wanna imitate the "ligne claire" style (Herge/Tintin) so I'm looking at a larger format, longer book.
Speaking of imitations, I tried my hand at the GPK style today.. I hate washing paintbrushes so I just did this on my ipad. Might do a proper one soon with acrylics
Looks great! Definitely has the CP Kids feel. here are all the covers I've done so far, including a new one (far left). Only two are totally my own creations, the others are based on Herge covers. I really love this style, I'm gonna attempt to do a lot more.
Thanks! I'm actually working on another figure done in this same exact style. 2014 is gonna be awesome if the stars align!
thanks guys ^.^ it's kind of a silly painting, so i was just having fun. it's been years since ive last painted in oils, but im trying to get back into it
^ He looks just as surprised as the inhabitants of that car must be! Haven't clicked over here in a while - those Hergé bites looks amazing!
