@Lalo Those are definitely Knuckle’s works. That dude sculpts like crazy, and has such a definitive style. I love his original sculpts that he finagled and fits into Hot Wheels cars. He also sculpted the Mad Toyz Mad Frankie. But Ken at Headlock produces some overall great toys, man. And this grey Lil’ Franky is easily a new favorite of mine. Black and grey is an obvious winning combination, but the sweater color really adds. And it’s not one I’d ever think to apply with the aforementioned!
I’m considerably lucky to be in such good company, that’s for damn sure. And this trio are the mini versions! About 3” or 4” tall! Articulated in the arms, legs and head!
These took goddamn forever to shoot and edit, but hey. When you love what you do it’s not work, AMIRITE? The OG Sick Boy was a gift from a phenomal Cali collector and friend. Very cherished, and first time I’d ever seen this piece in hand. I should also note that the ice cream was missing from the Sick Boy, and was separately gifted to me by another awesome friend peep! This was also exchanged to me at DCon, so I was able to bring it to Ken, and he was so excited to see it again. 15 years later, to this new rendition of Sick Boy, it really is to the boy - ish degree with the Lil’ Franky form it takes after. Total shit stick little punk you’d expect some trouble from, and I love it. Of course, it’s so rad to see yet another Knuckle illustration grace the back of his crewneck sweater. The new Lil’ Franky blank is one of my favorite color combinations, which I find highly under appreciated and under utilized. I just can’t get enough of this series of monsters, and I hope to come into the first blue blank at some point. It’s the only one I’m missing so far. Congrats, David!!! Very excited Ken opened up the lotto internationally, and that some board members came up! You’re definitely gonna love it when you get ‘em in hand!
@Lalo Ken and company can do no wrong! There’s for sure some older Headlock toys I’d still love to hunt down. But this new line, of what I’m assuming is Kustom Monsters, is flat out amazing. The changing of a head and color clothing on a body brings an entirely new character dynamic!
It most certainly is! Ken had them at DCon, but it was one of four figures from him I wasn’t prepared to financially swing! I think they’re around 18” tall? Wish I could swing the Gadaya now!
I didn't realize the design was based on ornamentation on Nagoya Castle, until I read the store listing on Gravy Toys. The ornamentation depicts a shachihoko, which is an animal from Japanese folklore. Here is a photo of the source material: Nagoya Castle Golden Dragon Fish by Marufish, on Flickr I rarely favor heavy glitter vinyl, but it seems fitting for this application.
Yeah, Shelterbank makes the other headsculpt for htis one. i think they went splitsies on this one. Thanks Akum6n for the post of the head... is more fishy than dragony, but easier to just say Dragon since he's a walker.
Just received the Oculus Beatnik, such a fun figure and the vinyl feels high quality. I'm confused about the beret though. The IG pics show it sitting on the side of the head, so I figured there would be some way for it to attach or that there would be magnets. Not the case. It is pretty much a useless accessory as it doesn't stay on at all and there's not even a good way for it to be placed in the hands. I'm not really too bummed because I don't really like the look anyway but it's kind of weird that the photos show the hat on the head, but the only way for this would be using some form of adhesive or getting your own magnets. weird
The residency of Oculus Beatnik. I love this new iteration of the Kustom Monster line. I initially thought the pants were black, but they’re actually a deep brown. Love the beret hat, too! Simple differences in accessories make a lot of charactering! Spoiler
Oh!!! And also, these were posted by Ken for a “Buy and Trade Swap Meet” held in Nagoya, Ken’s residing home. The Lil’ Franky on the left is especially interesting to me, as it’s clear green. Very much hoping these two see an overseas lotto! And @akum6n, you are 100% correct on the folklore reference to the Gadaya. Traditionally, I believe Shachihoko is a tiger headed fish, but when adorned on the castles to protect from fires it was instead a dragon headed fish. I’m not at all sure what the differentiating factor is between the two, if any. Even still, the Gadaya is a great, great toy, and I would like to make the leap into owning one eventually. Shelterbank’s World End Dragon is pretty great, too. Medicom had them at DCon.
