Here's a out-of-the bag shot of Kanegon. Isn't this the only standard size Kanegon from M1Go? No mention of M1Go on the header or on the figure. The foot has the round "SAN" logo and "Japan". But don't really feel like your typical M1Go. The vinyl doesn't seem as thick and there're quite a bit of pimples and dirt on the spray work. Weird.
That's a beauty! I know of two other ones they've released: a brown/silver one, and then a green/yellow that was just released at Superfest 64.
Yeah, its amazing that M1Go didn't do a standard Kanegon before this. I've been out of the loop for a while and forgot to check the website of wisdom aka Clubtokyo. Saw all the other colors and also noticed that the scarring and pimples seemed inherent to the mold.
I've mentioned this before, but I love how the first repro they did looks like it was made out of purse leather. Great score, Choon!
I wonder if the molds had previously been in the possession of Popy/B-Club (read: Bandai). I think they did a GID version years ago...
I just took a pic of the B Club GID to post BUT flickr is not working at the moment! But yeah, survey says same mold! Beautiful lavender Kanegon there Choon.
Reusing the same molds as Sanjeev said would make sense. And as for the roughness, I kind of like it, but see how it wouldn't be for everybody too. To me it adds a level of 'authenticness' to the toys and the history of making them in all these iterations. Such a lovely colour on that guy, love the lavender and all those subtle paint accents. Just a really nice score Choon. Congrats!
Yay! Mogera! I've long admired the Marmit Para Babies sculpt, but who makes that mid-sized beige and yellow (GID?) Mogera? That guy looks great. Sorry to further derail this M1 thread... Great Kanegon Choon! Paint does look fantastic on him!
That mini Mogera is from Bearmodel. He came packaged from one of the Toho sets with a mini pink Matango. About four inches tall, and non-GID as far as I know (not being lucky enough to have one myself).
^^^ The pair were the subjects in one of my first-ever picture posts here. Connell quickly added an amazing caption!
^^^^^....Thanks guys. What a relief, that its a mold issue and nothing else. I vaguely recall someone mentioning that M1Go is in possession of a lot of the original SAN or Bullmark mold. Dennis would be able to clue us in.
This is something we were actually discussing, as it seems to have slowed down a bit lately. But then, I haven't been to any of the festivals either recently, so it could be that there have been some. Dennis or Mike would know more I am sure.
Yuji does have a large collection of old molds, Im not sure if the Kanegon was pulled from one or a copy, I should ask. I have a couple of the Kanegons, I need to look closer and compare to an old one. Also, there are two versions of the purple Kanegon, one with the counter painted and one with the counter unpainted like the one above. Plus the recent green Kanegon and the brown from a little while back. No word on lucky bags this year yet, lets hope so! The site will probably get an update the night before and ill regret not going to WF this time!
And the same again from me too. Those minis are just spectacular. I would love a set of them so much. They really have a lot of the NH appeal to them; you can see the original Marusan connection. Just love the crudeness of the sculpting. I would love to hear the history behind these dug up molds. What a fantastic little mystery. WF muling anybody?
This Kanegon looks superb!! Apparently M1 made this purple color version to match the SAN version which appeared in a 1966 ad (the link is here: http://www.m1go.com/thumbnail/flyer12.jpg ) SAN never did release this color back in the day. I think I got this information correct?
x 2 x 2 they look like they were plucked from their timeline of the 60's and dropped off in ours. or fortuitously uncovered and rescued from a dusty box in a forgotten corner of their warehouse. i bet they even smell vintage-y.
'Barunga' or 'Satan's Booger'. I love this thing, i wanted one the second i saw a pic of the unpainted-proto. Yeah, i'm pretty sure the one i have is this one. As far as i can tell there have been a few different vinyl colours already. Its the kind of sculpt you keep seeing-things in . . . like when clouds look like they have faces, etc.
This is exactly what I was thinking when I took a look at your images! I had a yogurt lid look like it had george washington's face smeared in yogurt one time.
